Attitude Adjustment 101: Nine Ways to Transform You From Med

Work on your career and you'll make a living. Work on yourself and you'll make a fortune.

- Jim Rohn

Regardless of the number of college credits or degrees you have, the truth is that much of your success is determined by your attitude. Education is worthwhile but a good attitude is priceless. If you search for a college that has a concentration of study entitled Attitude, you will come up empty handed. Yet, the world would be a better place if we could all major in Attitude.

If attitude is not taught in school, then how come some people have great attitudes and others don't? More important, how can you change from a mediocre attitude to a magnificent one?

First, to adjust your attitude, you must be brutally honest with yourself and take responsibility for your attitude. You are the only one who can change you. Be accountable for who you are and how you behave. Tell yourself that blame is unacceptable.

Second, recognize warning signs like negative thoughts, blame and pessimism. Your mind is like a computer; the beliefs you put in (input) create the actions you take out (output). For example, if you tell yourself that you are just okay, you will be just okay. What you think about, you will become.

Third, use positive affirmations. Tell yourself every day that you are an outstanding person capable of achieving your goals. When the woman at the coffee shop in the morning asks how I am, I flash a big smile and reply I'm great or I'm outstanding. Replace negative and mediocre with excellent and amazing. Stand up taller each morning. Breathe deeply to allow air into your diaphragm. Smile more, even at people you don't know. Live a new level of excellence every day. Reach higher.

Fourth, your subconscious mind operates on images and pictures. Before you go to sleep, envision your ideal day. What are you doing? What are you wearing? Who are you with? Are you in a meeting, confidently speaking before your boss and colleagues? Are you on the beach playing with your children and spouse? See and feel yourself in this moment as a huge success. Do you want a new house, job or relationship? Imagine it as if it already happened.

Fifth, write down your goals. The subconscious mind kicks into action when you put your goals in writing. List three short-term and three long-term goals. Then, give your dreams deadlines (a date of accomplishment) and outline the steps you will take every day to reach your goals and dreams.

Sixth, put your head down and focus. Successful people do not spend time with negative water cooler gossip and time wasters. Set your goals and get to work.

Seventh, think about a successful person you admire. What are his or her personality traits, characteristics and values? Chances are the person who came to mind is successful because he or she decided to be positive and upbeat, to expect great accomplishments and to focus on doing whatever it takes to achieve his or her goals. Surround yourself with cheerful successful people.

Eighth, avoid aysayers who shoot you down, speak negatively or have poor work and personal habits.

Ninth, practice these ways to adjust your attitude for at least 21 days. That's how long it takes to form a new habit.

President John F. Kennedy said, The human mind is our most fundamental resource. Your mind is a fertile garden that will grow whatever you plant in it. What seeds are you planting in your mind? Are you planting seeds of opportunity and growth or weeds like cynicism and mediocrity? Life is better when you have a good attitude. So go ahead and give yourself the chance to move from mediocre to magnificent. We all have the tools. The key is to use the resources that we have to become totally amazing!

THE TRUTH ABOUT YOUR ACNE PROBLEM!

Like a good many people I have been the victim of acne vulgaris (what an appropriate name for such a vulgar disease) the medical term for pimples.

My acne problem has made me aggravated, made me cry, and made me angry. Thousands of people each year are afflicted by an acne problem, and their acne problem makes recluses out of way too many teenagers and even adults.

Your acne problem is caused when your pores get clogged and the fatty material made by the sebaceous gland accumulates, and a ump appears under the skin-or perhaps a whitehead or a blackhead (a comedone).

Blackheads are not caused by dirt but by the discoloring effect of air on the fatty material in the clogged pore. If this substance becomes infected a pimple results.

That is the medical explanation for pimples but what people really want to know is How do I get RID of my acne problem!?

As anyone can tell you the worst thing to do is to push or pop a pimple. Because this will not only cause your acne problem to worsen, but can result in life long scars.

No matter what you see on TV or in movies and no matter what anyone in your family or what any friend tells you, DON'T pop that pimple.

I speak from personal experience, my acne problem was so bad I couldn't stand it so I popped pimples trying to be proactive in getting rid of them.

That is the wrong method to get involved in doing something to rid yourself of your acne problem. I am still paying for doing it by the scars that remain on my face.

The right way is a simple trick I learned that lessons acne dramatically:

Steam your face at night over a warm bowl of water for 20 minutes before retiring to bed (this should be after washing your face thoroughly with a gentle cleanser like Olay's or Neutragena's facial cloths)

And then massage one half a teaspoon of castor oil onto your face for about 1 minute, until your face is just lightly shiny.

This will help keep your pores open and prevent new pimples from forming (the steaming opens pores and helps get rid of old pimples).

In the morning you should wash your face again immediately after waking and steam face again for 20 more minutes.

After steaming your face in the morning splash your face with cold water and dry off.

Do this consistently every night and morning for optimal results in clearing up your acne problem.

Now that you are armed with this information put it to use tonight and watch the improvement as your acne problem fades and your skin begins to glow after just a short period of time.

Why focusing on motivation can be your biggest downfall in y

Have you ever wondered why some people are able to make their dreams a reality while others' hopes and dreams remain only a fantasy? What is it that propels some people to higher level of fulfillment; lifestyle and happiness while others remain stuck at the lover level their entire lives? Life is too short to waste on a treadmill, which makes us feel stuck and unhappy. We are not born to wake up each day to fulfill obligations and then to fall wearily into our beds at the end of the day.

Many books, CDs and seminars promise the quick fix and magic pill to make all your dreams come true or solve all your problems. What participants experienced is temporary motivation that fizzles out when days go by. The answer lies not in motivation, but inspiration.

Motivation is simply a result of inspiration. When you are inspired, your life takes on a new meaning and you embark on a wonderful journey with the assurance that you are going somewhere.

It is when life gets empty; we either occupy ourselves with diversions and unworthy distractions. Or, we can set out on worthy quests to reach higher levels of fulfillment. We need to know that true success comes from inspiration and not from the mere doses of short-lived motivation. Knowing that inspiration rather than motivation is the key to success is already half the battle won. Seek inspiration instead motivation and you will be greatly empowered in life to fulfill your great destiny!

AthenaMinervaSulis The Many Aspects

Although She is only One, She appears as many forms or goddesses. Each goddess emphasizes an attribute of the one Divine Mother. This is an easy concept to understand when we consider our own earthly mothers. She is the mother of the hearth when she is cooking and feeding us.
She is the warrior mother when someone attacks us and she is protecting us. She is the muse mother when she is inspiring us to do our best. She is the healer when we are sick. Each of perspective are only
one of the aspects she wears in the drama of life for all eternity.

Athena is the Greek virgin goddess of reason, intelligent activity, arts and literature. She sprang full grown from Zeus' head.
She is Zeus' favorite and is allowed to use his weapons including his thunderbolt. She wore a helmet and carrying a spear and
shield, the magic aegis, a goatskin breastplate, fringed with snakes, that produced thunderbolts when shaken.
Athena was different from Ares; she represented the intellectual and civilized side of war. She was a wise and prudent adviser.
Sacred to her are the olive, serpent, owl, lance, and crow.

Although Minerva, the Roman Goddess of war and wisdom, is usually portrayed as equivalent to the Greek goddess Athena, she was originally an Etruscan goddess of dawn. She is revered as a goddess of wisdom, for the light of dawn typifies knowledge. She guides heroes in war and is patroness of all arts, crafts, guilds, and medicine. Called by Ovid he goddess of a thousands works, she was inventor of musical instruments, numbers, and many crafts, including weaving.

The serpent and the owl were sacred to her. The serpent is an emblem of life energy and the creative impulse. The owl the symbol of death and wisdom, and thus Minerva, a goddess of the dawn and of wisdom, is also a goddess of death and transformation. Minerva is an incarnation of wisdom in human form, an affirmation that we can use our knowledge and wisdom in the pursuit of any goal we choose.

Minerva was the Roman goddess of war, wisdom and the crafts.
In Britain at the turn of the 1st millennium CE, Minerva was depicted throughout Celtic Britain in both purely Roman fashion and in the more abstract Celtic style
But in Bath, at the temple of Aquae Sulis she becomes fully equated with a Celtic goddess, Sulis. (1)
So as you see as with our earthly Mother according to the aspect we
are calling on we call on the name that matches that aspect of the Great Mother.Of The Great Goddess

So call her name when you need protection from the warrior mother or wise counsel. Call her by yet another name when you need healing. You can call on her when you need inspiration and a muse to create. She is the great mother the female side of God.

Words to Live By Six Ways to Breathe Life into Your Day

We've heard the instructions many times over. There is
such familiarity that many people can almost recite them
verbatim. In fact, these directives are so crucial; they are
printed on placards and demonstrated visually by the staff.
They are so important that they can't wait until you are
airborne to share. I'm talking about the life-saving
instructions on what to do in case of an emergency that
airline passengers receive on every flight before they're
airborne. Given without fail around the globe daily, millions
often sit back and ignore flight attendants by reading a
magazine, speaking to a neighbor, or simply becoming
annoyed at the disruption of quiet. The highlight of the
instruction says:

Should the cabin lose pressure, oxygen masks will fall from
the ceiling in front of you. If you are traveling with small
children, place the mask on yourself first, then place a mask
on the child.

Who would have thought for decades the airline industry
has been sharing with millions of people a valuable life
lesson.

A Life Lesson
At first blush, this directive seems absurd. After all, when
you travel with a child, an adult's natural inclination says
children first. Period. No matter the circumstance. However,
consider that our emotional side is not always logical.
Ponder the life lesson to be learned here. If you do not put
your mask on yourself first, if you're not breathing, how in
the world can you ever help that child, yourself, or anyone
else?

Learn to Breathe
Many of us choose to give our oxygen away all the time.
How many times have you felt the pressure and a sense of
not being able to cope, not able to breathe? Did you take a
deep breath or did you just trudge along depleting your
reserves to none? A life on empty has nothing to offer to
either you or others. When we fail to see the value of taking
care of self before others, we fail to see we can be of no good
to anyone unless we choose to take the first breath. Sound
selfish? Perhaps, however, it is the only way you can
survive. Remember, lack of oxygen causes death - to the
mind, the body, and the spirit.

Six Ways to Honor Yourself Daily
What holds true for life in the air holds true for the life we
lead on the ground. On a daily basis practice these life-
saving strategies to breathe life into your day.

1. Value Time
Time is your most precious commodity that can never be
replaced or replenished. Be selective about how and with
whom you choose to spend your time. Make every minute
count because each is precious.

2. Cut the Umbilical Cord
Lighten your load and learn to let go. Stop dragging around
the troubles of everyone in the world. Constantly trying to
solve problems for others not only weighs you down, it
denies others the opportunity to learn that they can survive
and thrive. Experience breeds personal growth and power.
Allow those you love the opportunity to grow. Know that
sometimes the best gifts you can offer are your constant
love and support and allowing others to resolve their own
problems.

3. Maintain Strong Bonds
The real value in relationships is maintaining a connection.
Whether you are near or far, don't allow the busyness of life
to let time slip away. Make a conscious effort to connect
with friends and family on a regular basis.

4. Choose Your Friends Wisely
You become the people with which you choose to surround
yourself. Be very selective with whom you choose to spend
your time. Time is a precious commodity you can never get
back. Once time is gone, it's lost forever. Refuse to spend
time with others who choose not to honor you.

5. Be Courageous
Have the courage to step up and say what needs to be said
and do what needs to be done. Possess the courage to
practice what you know to be true. Question not whether
everyone likes you all of the time (because they never will).
Instead, ask, Does it really matter if those who choose to
disrespect and dishonor me don't like me?

6. Celebrate
Celebrate every breath you take and every memory you
create. Life is a meant to be a daily celebration. Celebrate all
of life's victories - large and small. Don't let the calendar
dictate special occasions. Every day use the fine china,
crystal, and silverware. Celebrate today because life is so
precious, and tomorrow isn't guaranteed. Take nothing for
granted and celebrate all life has to offer.

Follow these simple life strategies and you'll find you can
breathe a whole lot easier. This valuable life lesson - take a
breath - is not to be taken lightly. Ignore it and you'll find
yourself depleted of oxygen, weary and worn. Practice it and
you'll breathe new life into your day and have an
appreciation for life that all can follow. Now those truly are
words to live by.

Awakening The Giant In You

Deep within man dwells some vast slumbering powers and abilities that he never dreamt of possessing. Forces that would revolutionize his life if aroused and put into action.

I mean deep on the inside of you are resident immeasurable, unfathomable and unlimited powers. These powers are the seeds of greatness also referred to as the sleeping giant. Oh! There is a sleeping giant within you, snoring, fast knocked into the deepest sleep ever, as if one were under anaesthesia. In fact the giant is too deep in slumber that it could be taken for dead.

But friends, the truth is that the giant is not dead, the giant is only sleeping. The awakening of the giant would lead to an eternal revolution that could change the entire course of history forever and put an indelible mark on the sand of times.

When the sleeping giant is awoken the entire human race would know for sure that change has come, impact is in force, revolution is marching in rank and changing the order of things. AWAKE! O YE GIANTS AND SHAKE THE LAND.

I am glad to let you know that when this giant comes to life, there would be shakings here and there like the rattling of an earthquake. This giant would stand pyramidal high and do Herculean tasks without shrugging of shoulders.

Here comes the newday... the great day. this is the brightest day, the time has come for the sleeping giant to arise like a mighty man of war, the season of change is here, for giants to make maximum impact. The treatise is broken and the journey towards greatness in life has begun. Awake the giant in you and let us affect humanity positively forever.

Buried inside of you are untapped potentials, undiscovered gifts, unrefined talents, never thought about innovation, unimagined ideas, unwritten songs, discoveries of great value that divinity has packaged into man to impact his generation and even those to come. The Wisdom Manual Says: Fan into flames the gift on the inside of you. Wake up from your slumber and embark on a voyage of discovering who you really are, who and what you ought to be and should be.

You are too big to be a dwarf, too loaded to be a mediocre. The wealth on the inside of you is richer than the oil wells of Kuwait and the gold mines of South Africa put together. Life can be improved upon, but we limit ourselves because we do not know the untapped potentials in us. I stand bold to say that you are too gifted to be at the bottom of the ladder, you are just too much! The legendary Henry Ford, the owner of Ford Motors was nothing to be reckoned with in the academics, but he turned out to become a genius in the automobile industry. When Henry went to school and failed, he was encouraged to learn bicycle repair, and there he developed until he became a Motor Manufacturer. At the age of forty he ventured into car manufacturing, against all odd he became the pioneer of mass assembly of cars.By the time he was sixty years of age he was one of the world richest men of his time!Ford said sometime ago hink you can or can't either way, you will be right.

Avoiding Depression

Can you really avoid depression? Is there a way that you can get rid of this awful disease that seems to be taking over your life? For many, the only way to rid their bodies of depression is by taking medications and getting therapy. Both of these things are great ways to work through your depression, but is there a way in which you can avoid it altogether?

Depression is a mind disease. It is usually caused by an imbalance of chemicals in the brain. Sometimes, we refer to ourselves as being depressed when things go wrong. This is not the clinical form of depression, but both of these conditions can feel like the end of the world. The only way to avoid depression or really low times is to simply fight against it by surrounding yourself with good thoughts, experiences and people. Will it cure you of your depression? No, not technically. But, by surrounding yourself with a positive environment filled with positive energy, you may find that the effects that depression has on you is lessened.

Only your doctor can help you overcome depression. But, by placing positiveness within your life, you may be able to lessen the effects depression has. This is never a reason not to see your doctor though. If you would like more information regarding avoiding depression you can seek out the knowledge that is available throughout the internet. Websites like www.avoiddepression.com can provide you with good ideas, inspirations, and ways to avoid depression. Although it is not a medical website, it is still a good source for more ideas.

Are You Having School Daze?

All around the country along about now, the kids are going back to school. While it's primarily their event, it impacts the whole family, as everyone adjusts to new schedules and routines.

As you maneuver your way through this yearly adjustment, here are some tips to keep in mind.

WHEN TO LOOSEN UP, WHEN TO TIGHTEN UP

Establish the new routines consistently and firmly. Go over the new organization that's required - preparing for school the night before (clothes and supplies organized and ready to go for the next day), a sensible bed time, getting up on time, cleaning teeth, getting dressed and eating a good breakfast, and being ready for transportation on time.

At the same time, relax about other things not so important. Remember that your child is under stress, adjusting to a new routine, new teacher, new classmates and classroom, and perhaps even a new school. You can let up on some things for the time being, such as keeping their room spit-spot, and squabbling with siblings.

Expect some regression in behavior. That's what we do under stress (and you may be doing it as well!). Your child may be a little more on edge than usual and more emotionally reactive. That's why being firm about the new routines are important. Allow for outbursts, remaining calm yourself.

They will also be picking up some new habits. Who among us hasn't had their child return home from school the first day with a lovely new word you can't believe they learned, and never want to hear again. Go back over the rules of the road for your household, and the fact that Freddy does it so I can too, doesn't compute. My mother used to say If Freddy sat on a hot stove, would you? (Eventually I figured out the meaning of this metaphor!)

PROCESSING

School is school, just like work is work, but when there's been a hiatus, and when certain parts of it are new, there is always emotional processing going on.

Just as you ask your child for facts -- about their teacher, classmates, and subject -- ask them about their feelings. Then listen. Provide support and perspective as needed. A comment such as, I hate school, should be investigated. It may turn out, as happened to me once with a little one, that the lunch served that day had been yuchy, though everything else, once pursued, appeared to have been keen.

If you precede this with How are you feeling about your new teacher? you will get a chance to experience the level of your child's ability to express their emotions, and can help him or her sort them through, which is invaluable. Make emotional-expression vocabulary a part of your child's learning experience. Children as young as 3 can learn to respond (when having a tantrum):

Are you angry?
Yes.
Can you tell me why?
I'm frustrated.

IT'S MORE THAN GETTING A'S

As you get into the first weeks, check and see how your child is doing in their social adjustment. Friends and being able to get along make such a difference in their self-esteem, happiness, and ability to function well at school. A's are important, but children with higher emotional intelligence and better interpersonal relationships tend to do better academically.

With patience on your part, and instruction, and the passage of time, much of the turmoil will subside. Before you know it, you'll all be settled into the new routine!

Aromatherapy Favorites: Patchouli Essential Oil

Patchouli's History and Uses

Ah, Patchouli oil - people seem to love it or hate it. This well know essential oil has a somewhat deserved reputation as the scent of the Hippy generation (according to one source, it's use began as a mask for the odor of a particularly cherished herb), though it's traditional use dates back hundreds, perhaps thousands of years. Today, Patchouli oil has a well-deserved reputation in aromatherapy, with it's deep, musky, and sweet odor, and Earth and Fire balancing energy. It is an exotic aroma that can forever leave an imprint on the olfactory memory.

Patchouli (Pogostemon cablin) is a perennial herb native to Southeast Asia, growing wild in Sumatra and Java at elevations between 3,000 and 6,000 feet - though it's cultivation is more pervasive in lower tropical jungles. This bushy plant grows to the height of 3 feet, having a strong stem and soft, hairy leaves. For essential oil production, the plant is cut two or three times per year, with the best quality oil derived from leaves harvested in the wet season. The leaves are hand picked, bundled or baled, and allowed to partially dry in the shade and ferment for a few days before the oil is extracted via steam distillation (Patchouli oil is now becoming available as a CO2 extract in limited quantities). The fermentation process softens the plant's cell walls, easing the extraction of the oil.

The relative ease of it's cultivation, and it's high oil yield keeps the price of true Patchouli essential oils relatively low. It is important to note however, Patchouli is one of the few essential oils that improve with age (others being Frankincense, Cedarwood, Sandalwood and Vetiver), and that a properly aged Patchouli oil is much more desirable than a fresh one. Over time, the oil looses a harshness that many find distasteful, and adds a sweet top note. As it ages, the oil turns from light yellow to a deep amber, with the aroma becoming smoother and more rich. Principal constituents of the oil include: Patchoulol (25-35%), Alpha-Bulnesene (12-20%), Alpha-Guaiene + Seychellene (15-25%), and Alpha-Patchoulene (5-9%).

Perhaps first due to it's power as a moth repellent, the aroma of Patchouli was pervasive in cloth and clothing exported from India in the 19th century. The scent became an indicator of true 'Oriental' fabric, so much so that English and French garment makers were obliged to scent their imitation products with Patchouli to ensure their acceptance in the domestic marketplace. Beyond its use for preventing holes from being eaten in one's cloting, Patchouli oil has been used for centuries in traditional medicine in Malaysia, China and Japan. Primarily indicated for skin conditions, Patchouli may be of benefit in cases of dermatitis, eczema, acne, dry chapped skin, and other irritating conditions, along with dandruff and oily scalp conditions. As a cell rejuvenator, it may help in healing wounds and reducing the appearance of scars. It is considered an excellent remedy for insect and snake bites, and has been used as a fumigant and rubbing oil to prevent the spread of fevers and to strengthen the immune system.

Aromatherapy and Perfumery Uses of Patchouli Oil

Patchouli oil is considered an excellent base note and fixative in perfumery, being a component in many famous perfumes. As a fixative, it slows the evaporation of other, more volatile oils so that their aroma may be released over a longer period of time. A little patchouli can be used in natural perfume blends, adding that special deep and earthy aroma. It mixes well with many essential oils, with almost all common oils being mentioned across a variety of sources - these include Vetiver, Rosemary, Sandalwood, Frankincense, Bergamot, Cedarwood, Myrrh, Jasmine, Rose, Citrus oils, Clary Sage, Lemongrass, Geranium and Ginger.

In Aromatherapy, Patchouli is considered a great balancer, relaxing yet stimulating, particularly relevant for conditions of weak immunity where overwork and anxiety have left the individual in a susceptible state. It is said to bring the three principal forces at work within the body - the Creative at the navel, the Heart center, and transcendental wisdom a the crown - into harmony.

Patchouli oil may also relieve the strain of those with excessive mental activity who may feel 'out of touch' with their body and sensuality. It has been considered a relaxing aphrodisiac, and can be helpful for those with impotence, frigidity, and sexual anxiety that are products of mental anguish. Patchouli combines this aphrodisiac effect with an antidepressant one, uplifting the mind with it's sweet, warm, spicy scent.

As if this were not enough, Patchouli is thought to be a bringer of prosperity and abundance. Perhaps by allowing one to open to these possibilities energetically, the oil is used in ceremonies and prayers by those in need of financial or other type of infusion in their lives. One may simply close their eyes, imagine the abundance they need, and inhale the oil's aroma for a few seconds.

For a few simple blends, try:

3 parts Patchouli and 1 part Rosemary Cineol. This is a wonderfully uplifting blend combining the deep earthiness of Patchouli with the invigorating aroma of Rosemary. This can certainly be worn as a perfume, or used in a diffuser.

When the going gets tedious, try brightening with 3 parts Coriander, 2 parts Patchouli and 1 part Bergamot. This may uplift the spirits and remind one of the joy to be found in life.

For the sensually insecure, try 1 part Geranium, 1 part Patchouli and 1 part Bergamot. A beautiful yet simple blend for getting comfortable in one's own skin.

It may take a little education, but many who claim to have a dislike for Patchouli may truly enjoy it when finally getting to sample a properly aged or beautifully blended oil.

Are You (or are you with) A CommitmentPhobe?

We hear it all the time. He just won't make a commitment. She just wants some space right now. I'm not sure if I'm ready for a serious relationship.

What does having a fear of commitment really mean? Actually, it means basically what it says. For SOME reason you, or someone you are involved with, isn't ready to take this relationship (or any relationship) to the next step.

So how do we know if we or our (hoped for) partner are truly afraid of commitment? How do we know that it's not something else? Is there any real difference between these two anyway?

Do these excuses sound familiar? I'm just under a lot of stress right now. It's not you, it's me. I can't focus on a relationship right now because of my overloaded schedule.

Very often, we want to accept these reasons because we fear the real truth. Other times, we are just very confused by our feelings and the often mixed messages from the other person.

So, how do we evaluate our ability to make a long-term commitment? How do we know if he/she is really ready or willing?

There are only two real issues here to examine.

The first issue involves looking at a true fear of commitment itself. If this is the problem it's important for the person with this fear to ask themselves a few key questions.

Are you concerned about the idea of forever?
Do you fear you could make a mistake in who you choose?
Do you fear a loss of your freedom/autonomy?
Are you afraid of a bad marriage- like your parents for instance
Do you fear you would be a bad mate?

If you answered yes to any of these, it would be a good idea to begin working to
understand where these feelings come from. Once you understand them better, you can choose to address them.

Perhaps you need more time or emotional growth before you consider making
a long-term commitment.

If you'd like to deal with past relationship feelings, I have an article on this at http://www.consum-mate.com/02jul.htm.

If you are unsure if you are relationship ready, check out my article on this at http://www.consum-mate.com/03jun.htm

If lack of self-awareness is an issue, check out http://www.consum-mate.com/02aug.htm

Greater self-knowledge will help you to overcome this block to building a lasting and satisfying relationship.

The second issue is the inability to make a commitment to a PARTICULAR relationship. This may not be the right one. Perhaps there is a sense of this but it is written off to being a commitment -phobe in general.

Focus on the true level of involvement with each other. Is there a genuine connection? Or is there a vague feeling of something missing? Evaluate the quality of your intimate relating. This does not mean how often (or even how good) the sex is. This is about how open, sharing and real you are in your interactions with each other.

Does any of this sound familiar?

It seems like we are only killing time?
He/she doesn't seem to want what I want.
We seem to be off and on in our level of contact/affection.
I hey are still not over a past relationship.
I hey just don't seem to know what I hey want.

Remember to focus on the involvement or lack thereof between you. If either person is disengaged in any way, it's time to address the real issue of; Is this the right relationship for us?

Exploring your ability to make a lasting commitment should be a first step in your plan for building a healthy and lasting relationship.

The Perfect 35 Minute Workout

Most of the physical fitness trainers, and coaches agree that
doing some sort of resistance training, and cardio training, sets
up a good foundation for all around fitness. What most people
like to do is alternate days. M-W-F do resistance training and on
Tues-thurs-sat do aerobic training or some other variation. Now
this is not a bad thing but it can be very time consuming and for
people who have real busy lives it might be hard to make this
kind of commitment.

I say why not do both in one training session? Now I am not
saying to do both in the same day. I am talking about doing a
workout for about 30-40 minutes that gives you resistance and
cardio for that time frame. Instead of making them separate,
combine them into a more efficient workout.

Another words you perform a resistance exercise, it could be your
own bodyweight, weights, cables, tubing, it doesn't matter.
Immediately after this is completed you perform a cardio
movement. It could be running in place, jumping jacks, squat
thrusts, anything that is aerobic for about (30) seconds, and
then continue on to the next movement. Doing say 6-8 resistance
exercises and in between (30 seconds of aerobics) for let's say
3 sets. Now these 3 sets are without resting you are continually
moving for roughly 35 minutes.

Let me give you an example: Let's use weights. 1.10 reps of
lunges, then run in place. 2 10 reps of squats, then run in
place. 3.10 reps of bicep curls, now run in place. 4 10 reps
of dips or pushups, now run in place. You can choose any exercise
you want just hit all major bodyparts. Like I said choose 6-8
resistance exercises and 30 seconds of aerobics and do at least
3 sets alternating. This is fat burning exercise.

Believe me when I tell you this is not for the faint of heart.
You will be breathing heavily quickly. The beauty is it saves
time and cuts workout time in half. When I first tried this I
did make it thru the 3 sets but it wasn't easy. If you have to
stop do so. Catch a breadth and then complete it. You will
gradually improve as you keep doing this exercise protocol.

Now for the people who don't have weights at home or do not want
to do this at their local workout establisment, or are just
looking for a change of pace, I have found the perfect
alternative. A complete system for under $50. For men and women.
You get a 3 cable color system for tension, a video to follow
along,a manual, and travel bag. It's very portable. And the
workout you get in 35 minutes is fabulous. The name of this
product is BODYLASTICS. You should really check this out.
http://www.bodylastics.com/?img=3&kbid=118

When I am pressed for time and want a killer workout this is
what I use. So I get both resistance and cardio in (1) 35
minute workout. I highly recommend this product for people who
want a gym in a bag. Excellent for people who travel. Give it a
try and please let me know what you think.

The Incredible Human Psyche

Deep within the realm of your subconscious is the centrifuge, or cerebral core of all Human possibilities. Therein, lies the key to...

The intriguing Human psyche - more complex than the metamorphosing cocoon, and more phenomenal than the human brain could ever imagine.

Deep within the realm of your subconscious is the centrifuge, or cerebral core of all Human possibilities. Therein, lies the key to the supernatural, heightened spirituality and the unique potential of overcoming obstacles, large and small.
Human psyche is one of life's most bizarre and unparalleled traits within the physical being. It enables our extrasensory perception, encourages drive and motivation, feeds our emotional balance and at times, permits us to undertake feats that our conscious being would never allow.

It controls impulses in our brains that activate our dreams, instills our fears and is the driving force of our physical stamina. The deity within of which all life transforms into the wakened being - thus is the Human psyche.

Interestingly, we never notice its presence, as it is always with us. Spiritual and emotional awareness are the elaborate, invisible compounds of it. As we wake each morning, oblivious to the ensuing day, it is the psyche that jumpstarts our will to conquer the light, to tempt our nerves and even directs our hopes and dreams.

Stories of the impossible made possible through incredible feats of strength and psychic-kinetic energies released through channels of our internal beings; the mysterious force that empowers mind over matter .

Through our psyche, boundaries are nonexistent between the parallel planes of all inter-human, spiritual connections. By means of meditation, we permit our bodies to become one with our multifaceted world. When we absorb the spiritual energy around us, molecular transformations incur within. Self-healing, radical phenomenon, and psychic interactions are all aspects of this wonderful charge.

If we incorporate our psyche within the realm of our conscious, we can attain a higher level of spirituality, peace and enable our mentality to overcome physical & mental weaknesses. Practicing trance concentration through our psyche, we capacitate ourselves with unimaginable forces of nature.
In closing, Henry Ford once stated, If you think you can, you will.if you think you can't, you won't. Within his profound words, we uncover incredible human spirit at its finest - therein lies the Human Psyche, and the impossible - possible. The Incredible Human Psyche

Backache cause cure & natural remedies

The modern world that's before us, offers us the access to anything
That we would like to, hence we no longer need to walk long distances, nor do we need to spend the same amount of energy that our parents or grand parents would have spent to do a job, for motors and machines have occupied the position and have replaced manual work

This site is dedicated to some of the common ailments that have started affecting the MANKIND just because of these developments that has happened to the human race

The first ailment, which I have preferred to discuss, is about BACKACHE. Days are gone when only people above 40 used to have the chances of getting BACKACHE, Now No matter you are young or old, BACKACHE can attack you, that to when you expect it the leastit comes to you without any warning. so Bewarea small act like bending and taking your dropped possession can cause backache. The reason I chose BACKACHE, as the first topic for discussion is that, BACKACHE is the chief reasons for absence from work. Several million man-hours are lost due to BACKACHE.
The reason for this is the sedentary life style that the human race has started to adopt. (Modern developments)
To look at the clinical reasons, as we get older the changes that occur in the spine too can cause BACKACHE.
We get a little shorter, from bone shrinkage, there is a lot of thinning of the discs and spine develops arthritic spurs.

Aromatherapy: Esoteric & Spiritual applications

The third and final part of this three part series on Aromatherapy and Essential oils deals with the more esoteric aspects of Essential oils. There is a long history of Essential oils being used for spiritual purposes and in rituals. Incense is just one example of essential oils being used in religious ceremonies and for inducing a 'spiritual' environment.

c. The Way Essential Oils Effect the Etheric Body or Psycho-spiritual Level

The historical use of aromatic oils and resins goes back many thousands of years in human history and traverses many cultures and civilizations on our planet.

In China, incense was burned to purify the atmosphere and rid the environment of evil spirits, in India, incense was and is used in all temples of all persuasions to sanctify the devotions; in Mexico, incenses were used in rituals to induce trance-like states in the participants to make them more accepting in their role of living sacrifice to the Gods; in Northern Europe the Druids used incenses which were sacred to the Earth Mother; the Greeks and Romans also used essential oils and fragrant herbs in all aspects of their daily lives, and many of their practices were learned from the Egyptians and Mesopotamians who were without doubt, the absolute masters in the Art of Aromatherapy.

The first people to dispense aromatics as medicines in Ancient Egypt were the priests - they were the first Aromatherapists. As the use of aromatic substances became more common, they were also used by the physicians.

At Heliopolis, the city dedicated to Ra the Sun-God, incense was burned 3 times a day: sunrise, noon, and sunset. This incense was called Kuphi or Kyphi and contained 16 ingredients including cassia, Calamus, Citronella, Cinnamon, Peppermint, Pistacia, Juniper, Acacia, Henna, Cypress, Myrrh, Raisins, Frankincense, and Morning Glory.

Aromatherapy was used in the healing temples in both Egypt and later in Greece, which also incorporated the use of color healing utilizing solar light. Great glass windows of various colors were built in to the ceilings of these temples at specific points, corresponding with the journey of the sun across the sky. The patient was placed in the stream of colored light and incense was burned or oils applied to the patient as need dictated. This form of healing is called Heliotherapy.

Even as recently as the Middle Ages in Europe, fragrant herbs were known to possess special healing properties by virtue of their fragrances, and were burned in the streets to counteract the odor and ill effects of the poor hygiene of the times. During the time of the Great Plague this method was also used to anticepticise the air.

Essential Oils, via their own innate LIFE FORCE ENERGY , can help change energy imbalances in our Aura (Etheric body). They can adjust the way in which we perceive, feel and think about both ourselves and our environment working from the Spiritual Level 'downwards'.

They can help us have a more positive, relaxed or energetic mood, help us to concentrate better, develop our psychic awareness, and act as a bridge to help us access deeper or higher levels of consciousness. This function of Essential Oils overlaps with the effects oils have on the Brain, but it must be remembered that the Nervous and Hormonal Systems are the physical ranslators of the Etheric dimensions.

The use of Aromatic plants as Incense in religious and ritual practices is based on this knowledge. Incense purifies, acts as a libation or gesture of respect to higher intelligences and gives us a doorway for entry into the Astral realms.

It is believed that Essential Oils, when used in the form of incensing, are signals to those other dimensions where we find our Guardian Angels, Spirit Guides, Gods and Goddesses and states of pure Cosmic Consciousness and form a means whereby we can show our intention or willingness to open our consciousness to those realities. The result being that these Beings are able to communicate with us or through us more easily.

By developing our sensitivity to other levels of energy/being and other levels of our own consciousness, we are better able to develop our healing powers and accelerate our own personal/spiritual growth.

Because we are conditioned from birth to relate primarily to the physical plane of existence we tend to have some degree of difficulty in shifting to the spiritual levels without some assistance. Essential oils can help us with this.

THE SENSE OF SMELL AND ETHERIC ENERGY
From an energy point of view, the sense of smell relates to the Element called AKASHA or ETHER. This is the Universal and All-Pervading element, the Element of Spirit, and it has the ability to transform itself into anyone of the forms of Elemental Energy. It is also closely related to the Element of Air, which is related to the sense of taste.

Man's sense of smell is not as acute as that of a dog or a moth, however, it is never the less quite acute, and man is capable of distinguishing many thousands of odors. The exact way in which odor perception takes place is still quite a mystery to medical science. There is sound knowledge of the structures involved in odor perception, but the function itself still has many unanswered questions.

By developing the sense of smell we are provided with a means by which we may use essences and aromatic substances to create a mood, a feeling, an atmosphere, or change our state of being to one which is more in harmony with our True Selves, and which aids the development of our higher senses.
Most people think of incense in the context of 'joss sticks'. To many people, incense is something that gives a nice fragrance to an environment and little more. But the act of burning incense is more than this, and fragrances have quite profound effects.

Perfumes and aroma have a great power to influence the mind and to lift the consciousness. They can arouse memory and distant recollections, as well as soul memories (past lives).
Use of incense sharpens the perception beyond the ordinary and encourages better powers of discrimination.

When we decide to extend our consciousness we must first pass through the different layers of our own psychological makeup. 'Incense' helps to ease the passage through these layers of self to the Universal light, creating a link or channel between us and the formative energies of the Universe and our own Being.

When essential oils, resins or gums are burned, their substance 'etherealises' and passes to the subtler planes opening the way for the return flow of energy.
By being consciously aware of the incense or oil we are using, and by being aware of its properties, and in tune with our intention, we can work more effectively and more powerfully, whether it be in healing or meditation techniques.

Essential oils form a bridge commonly used by Auric Healers to set a communication link between the physical and etheric bodies. The radiations from natural aromatic substances also nourish our natural energies and spirit. Odors are known to give off vibrations which fit into the known electromagnetic scale and are thought to vibrate in the Infra-Red end of the color spectrum. This is also known as the invisible colors'.

Colors and odors are said to have a parallel, also odors and music, and odor and shape. The notes of the Diatonic Scale (A,G,C,B,D,F,) have been correlated to odors, and various compounds in aromatic molecules are known to have certain shapes, e.g. round molecules tend to have a camphor-like smell, disc shapes to have a floral odor, and wedge shapes to have a Peppermint fragrance.

These facts present a definite argument in favor of the 'Vibration' theory, and the way odors have an effect on the Sixth Sense.
Taking these correspondences a little further it is of interest to note that some essential oils are pigmented, which often relates to their therapeutic properties, for example:

- Benzoin is red and is used to promote healing;
- Bergamot is green and is used in the treatment of urinary tract disorders;
- Lemon is yellow and is used in the treatment of the digestive system;
- Chamomile is blue and is used against inflammation of the skin and mucous membranes of the body.

These colors also have therapeutic applications in color therapy, in which red is considered an energizing and warming color, green is balancing and harmonizing, yellow stimulates the digestion, and blue is relaxing and cooling.

Conscience

When I was a child my parents told me what was right and wrong, school had its rules and church had its sins. To be a good boy, all I needed to do was obey all the do's and don'ts. If I did, I was led to believe I was following my conscience.

This view of conscience can carry into and through adult life so that one's perception of right and wrong is shaped totally by the dictates of others. Is conscience just a product of nurture? Are we mere blank moral slates at birth or do we have an inherent sense of ethic from the get-go? I have come to believe the latter is the case because of my own internal reflection from the time of self-awareness in early youth, and the fact that society throughout time has had the same basic thread of ethic. I have sensed right and wrong from earliest memory. I'll bet you have too, if you reflect. It is there from the beginning just as the homing instinct is within a migrating bird breaking from the shell.

We spend a lifetime tinkering with our conscience, testing its limits, compromising, suppressing, denying and ignoring it in an attempt to cheat life and gain unfair advantage. But it remains solid and true at our core always ready to be re-discovered and acknowledged. We often learn best by making mistakes and feeling the pain. It is those pangs of conscience and guilt remaining with me for a lifetime that have taught me the lesson to listen-up when conscience speaks.

The first step, however, is to reach within and decide what is your conscience as opposed to that of another. Somebody else's moral dictate does not equal your conscience. If we had been brought up in another society, with other parents, a different school system and religion, then the rights and wrongs would be different and our consciences would be different. Some societies practice cannibalism, infanticide and suicide bombing because that is the way their conscience is groomed by others. But the conscience I am pointing to is not contingent. Conscience is like a receiver. We can tune it to the immutable law of universal truth or try to tune it out. Nevertheless, it remains there beaming to us whether or not we change the dial.

To make conscience dependent upon the whims and seasons of humans is to marginalize it into ethical meaninglessness. For example, who to kill and how to kill is formulated by military leaders and an ingrained patriotic conscience. Each side in a conflict sees it as moral to kill the other. If we kill and maim one or hundreds of people, as long as they are the enemy, we are doing our moral duty and our conscience is being properly exercised. In the legal profession, attorneys will defend the guilty and prosecute the innocent and do so completely in line with their conscience because the law (which others have devised) dictates that such is proper and right. In medicine, physicians prescribe drugs and practice surgery and other therapies that may do more harm than good. But they do so in good conscience because this is what medical school taught and it is in line with conventional standards of practice. If a patient dies as a result of therapy, the doctor can take comfort in thinking he has done all that can be done as defined by accepted medical standards. His conscience is clear. If a food manufacturer makes food composed of a variety of synthetics and food fractions, that's considered fine as long as the food meets certain regulatory requirements and the label is designed properly. The product is perfectly legal to sell and the company need suffer no problems with conscience regardless of the health consequences to consumers.

On the other hand, consumers feel they need only follow all the societal norms to be of good conscience. Let doctors take care of health, the government take care of the economy, the military take care of security, the attorney take care of disputes, the accountant take care of finances, the church take care of ethics, and the food industry take care of food choices. Sit back, watch TV, overeat, pay the bills and follow the rules. All is well.

This surrender of conscience first became apparent to me during a time in my life when I questioned the organized religion I was brought up in because I discovered it was committed to conformity to human edicts (church leaders), not the search for truth. This brought me to the following question: If I were to deny such outside institutional moral authority and be left alone with only my own conscience, would I become a thief, rapist and murderer? To my surprise, rather than a sense of amoral freedom, over time and with more life experience I found myself like in one of those rooms in the movies where all the walls start pushing in. Listening to the inner voice of conscience was far more exacting, demanding, constricting and at the same time liberating (the true inner me was in charge) than decades of religious mandate ever was. Virtue is choice, not obedience - a true (secular) epiphany for me.

We think we exercise conscience in our careers and personal lives, but few of us do. We usually are following the choices others are making for us. And these choices are too often designed primarily to benefit those who are giving us our do's and don'ts. We are moo-ing along back to the barn to be milked by the conscience givers. Surrendering to others makes us too vulnerable to their self-interests. The end result, all too often, is that we become pawns, victims, experimental subjects, tools and objects of tyranny, resources and profit centers. Rather, we should reach out to become full human beings each individually exploiting our full potential and helping to bring the world to a better place through our own innate and cultivated inner voice.

I'm not sure how to properly define conscience other than to say it is innate within our being, an instinct to serve as an ethical guide. We will never come to know our conscience, however, until we free ourselves of the imposed consciences of others. This is not to say the views of others shouldn't be considered, just that it seems to me that each of us are at least as justified in deciding what is right and wrong for ourselves as someone else is in deciding it for us.

I'm not suggesting just dropping out and being self-willed. It means taking on the heavy lifting of being informed and exercising ones own judgment. A conscience nurtured by search, openness, and a commitment to reason and truth is a responsibility each of us must shoulder. To not develop an informed and self-reflecting conscience, but rather to follow the rules of various surrogate mommies and daddies through life, is to remain a child.

Why Failure is Good for You

How do you view failure? Do you see it as something negative that you don't want to be associated with or do you see it as something positive? Most people in the world don't like failure.

Fear of failure is the main reason why more than 80% of people in the world are not prepared to change their circumstances. Why do people fear failure so much? The reason for this is because people don't understand the dynamics involved in success and failure.

Everything we do in life has either a right way of doing it and a wrong way of doing it. When we do it the right way we meet with success. Needless to say that when we do it the wrong way we are unsuccessful. Understanding this is important because it puts failure in its proper perspective and removes the fear around it.

When someone who doesn't understand this dynamic meets with temporary failure he gives up thinking that he is not good enough or that he will never make it. But is this really what it is? Does the fact that you didn't make it the first time mean that you are not good enough? Does it mean that you'll never make it? Not at all! All it means is YOU HAVE NOT FOUND THE CORRECT METHOD YET!

So what do you do next? You go back and try and find out where you went wrong.

Then you try again this time employing a different method. When this doesn't work you go back and look at everything you have done so far. Talk to successful people who have made it in this area.

Think of what you might have left out and try again. Whatever you do, don't give up.

Why do you need to do this? Because, Every failure, every adversity and every heartache, carries with it the seed of an equivalent or a greater benefit, says author and mentor to many great men, Napoleon Hill. Failure contains the seed of victory and of success.

Failure teaches you what works and what doesn't. When you study the reasons for your failure and learn from it, you'll find the key to your success. The great inventor Thomas Edison knew this truth better than anyone else. It took Edison 8000 trials to perfect the Edison battery? Afterwards he uttered this famous quote, At least we know 8000 things that don't work.

You should also be like that. Every successful person has had to overcome temporary defeat at one time or another. Know this! You haven't really failed until you ACCEPT defeat. Do you envy those who got success easily? Don't! Success earned in spite of earlier failure is so much sweeter than if you would get it otherwise.

Those who earn success in this way know the road to success. They are not afraid of losing what they have because they have learned how to become successful. Those that easily got success don't know the road.

They got there so quickly that they didn't bother to look around. Let me use the following analogy to illustrate. Take two guys traveling to the same destination, with this difference. The one is going by airplane and the other by car, but the one arriving by car had a few breakdowns along the way.

If you take these two guys back to their original position and ask them to find their way to their destination, who do you think is going to remember the road better the next time? Surely the guy who had a few breakdowns and spend some time on the road, because he had the opportunity to look around.

Let temporary defeat no longer be an obstacle. You have many hidden talents, so start working towards realizing your dreams. Don't be put off by the fear of failure. Failure is an ally because it contains the seed of success.

What's Causing My Lower Back Pain And How Can I Get Rid Of I

Lower back pain is one of the most common ailments people suffer from and approximately 8 out of 10 people will deal with back pain at some point in their life. That's a lot of people are you one of them? Out of all of the various forms of back pain, lower back pain is by far the most common and there's a good explanation for this. Any idea why? It's not car accidents, it's not work-related injuries, and it's not a lack of prescription medications either. Lack of movement and use is the number one cause of lower back pain! I bet your orthopedic specialist or chiropractor didn't tell you that, did they? It's the lack of movement in various muscles over years that leads to muscle imbalances and uneven wear and tear on your body, especially the spine. For example, how many times a day are you bending, leaning, or twisting? Here's what the typical person's day is like:

  • Wake up
  • Eat breakfast (hopefully)
  • Drive or ride to work
  • Sit at desk
  • Eat lunch
  • Sit at desk some more
  • Drive or ride home
  • Eat dinner
  • Sit on couch and watch television
  • Go to bed

Notice the trend here? That's an awful lot of sitting and not moving. Well, this is what leads to serious muscle imbalances and so what do we do, we go to the gym and perform exercises that only make the imbalances worse! The key to eliminating lower back pain (nearly any ache, pain, or injury for that matter) is to identify the muscle imbalances that are pulling the spine, bones, and joints out of place and then stretch the tight muscles while strengthening the weak muscles.

How do I know this? Well, as certified personal fitness trainer and post-rehabilitation specialist, I have worked with hundreds of individuals with back pain and the conditions that ranged from sciatic pain, to bulging discs, to spinal fusion, and others. In working with these individuals I discovered some startling facts.

1. Many people who seek professional help are often mis-diagnosed and end up following a treatment plan that fails to eliminate the cause of their back pain.

2. Nearly all of the individuals I worked with were able to eliminate their back pain, or significantly improve their condition even though all of the traditional treatments failed them (physically therapy, chiropractic care, cortisone injections, anti-inflammatory medications, back surgery, etc).

Even more amazing is the fact that most of these individuals were able to eliminate their back pain in a matter or days or weeks simply by performing a handful of exercises and stretches! These weren't your basic exercises or the standard back stretches and stomach exercises most experts recommend - these were specific exercises and stretches prescribed based on the individual. Many of these people had suffered for years and years with aches, pains, and stiffness and lived inactive lives because of their back pain.

3. Most back pain treatments offered for lower back pain only address the symptoms and don't address the cause, which usually delivers just temporary relief for the individual. In addition to helping hundreds of others eliminate lower back pain, I also have had personal experiences with back pain and other various conditions such as sciatic pain, tendonitis, muscle strains and sprains, and more. In every single situation the traditional treatments did nothing but treat the symptoms (often times not successfully) and the only approach that gave lasting improvements and relief was targeted stretches and exercises.

Have you tried traditional treatments and found little relief? I am not saying these treatments are not effective at temporarily reducing the pain or inflammation, but I am saying nearly all fail to get rid of the underlying cause of the problem.

So how do you identify these muscle imbalances? Well, it isn't easy but with a basic understanding of how your body works you can at least start looking at your situation and find out which muscles are over worked and too strong and/or tight and which ones are too weak and stretched out. It also helps if you can find a qualified health professional who specializes in identifying muscle imbalances. Unfortunately, there are still few professionals who use what I call the common sense approach. However, your best bet is to look for a personal fitness trainer that is trained and certified in post-rehabilitation, a manual physical therapist, or an osteopath. Also, don't be afraid to ask questions... you need to take charge of your health care and be sure to quiz them to find out what type of an approach they take in treating back pain. This is just some of what you'll learn when you order our Lose The Back Pain video. Stop fooling around with your lower back pain and address the true cause... because if you don't, you'll only end up with temporary relief of a life long problem.

I wish you the best and remember, the key to a healthy back is movement!

How to Create Hip Mature and Lush Harmonies

Copyright 2005 RAW Productions

Rarely is a chord played with its tones contained in a single octave, the root on the bottom, the third in the middle, and the fifth on the top.

Usually chords are voiced!

This basically means that the positions of a chord's tones are scattered over the keyboard. The tones may be altered, doubled, added to, missing, and so forth.

There are a great variety of possibilities available in voicing chords. Voicing chords properly is an art within itself. Using the correct voicing techniques in your playing will give your improvisation a hip, mature and full sound. Chords played in root position just does not seem to do the job when playing Jazz, Rock, Pop, Blues, Gospel and Smooth Jazz piano.

Learning and mastering good voice leading techniques in your playing is not difficult if you just follow some simple rules.

1. The most important notes in any chord is the 3rd and the 7th. The 3rd of the chord defines whether the chord is a major or minor chord. The 7th of the chord will define whether the chord is a dominant or major chord.
Usually the bass player will play the root and fifth. The root and fifth are not essential tones and can be completely left our from your chord
progressions. If you must use the root and fifth try using it in your right hand, not your left. You should add your color tones in your right hand.

2. When you are taking a solo and not comping (accompanying) for another soloist you should play your chord voicings in your left hand, so that the right hand can be free to improvise, do fills, double the left hand, add extensions, etc.

3. The range of your voicings is also very important. A good rule of thumb to remember when voicing your chords, is to always try to voice
your chords around middle C. Keeping your voicings around middle C will sound full and clear. Limits of approximately an octave above or below will assure best results by preventing the voicing from assuming a quality of thinness or muddiness.

Be A Cancer Survivor Advice About Successful Treatment Met

Although cancer is the second leading cause of death in the United States, the survival rate for many types of cancer has remarkably improved in recent years. About 1 million new cases of cancer will be diagnosed in the United States this year, and about half a million people will die of the disease. However, improvements in cancer detection, diagnosis and treatment have greatly increase the survival rate. About 60 percent of all people diagnosed with cancer will be alive 5 years after treatment--and this figure increases each year with new medicines and medical procedures.

Cancer is a group of many related diseases that begin in cells, which are the body's basic building blocks. To understand cancer, it is helpful to know what happens when normal cells become cancerous. Normally, cells grow and divide to produce more cells as they are needed to keep the body healthy. Sometimes, this orderly process goes awry. New cells form when the body does not need them, and old cells do not die when they should. These extra cells form a mass of tissue called a growth or tumor. Not all tumors are cancerous; tumors can be benign or malignant.

Benign tumors are NOT cancer. They can often be removed and, in most cases do not come back. Cells in benign tumors do not spread to other parts of the body. Most important, benign tumors are rarely a threat to life.

Malignant tumors ARE cancer. Cells in malignant tumors are abnormal and divide without control or order. Cancer cells invade and destroy the tissue around them. Cancer cells can also break away from a malignant tumor and enter the bloodstream or the lymphatic system.

Blood vessels include the network or arteries, capillaries, and veins through which your blood circulates through your body. The lymphatic system carries lymph and white blood cells to all tissues of the body. By spreading through the bloodstream or lymphatic system, cancer can spread from the original (primary) cancer site to form new tumors in other organs. This spread of cancer is called metastasis.

Cancer treatment can include surgery, radiation therapy, chemotherapy, hormone therapy, and biological therapy. The doctors may use one or a combination of methods, depending on the type and location of the cancer, whether the disease has spread, the patient's age and general health, and other factors. Because treatment for cancer also damages healthy cells and tissues, it often causes side effects.

Some patients worry that the side effects of the treatments are worse than the disease. However, patients and doctors generally discuss the treatment options, weighing the likely benefit of killing cancer cells and the risks of possible side effects. Doctors can also suggest ways to reduce or eliminate problems that may occur during and after treatment.

Surgery is common procedure to remove cancer. The side effects depend of many factors, including the size and location of the tumor, the type of operation, and the patient's general health. Some patients worry that having a biopsy will spread the disease. This a very rare occurrence since surgeons take special precautions to prevent cancer from spreading during surgery.

Radiation therapy (also called radiotherapy) uses high-energy rays to kill cancer cells in a targeted area. Radiation can be given externally by a machine which aims radiation at the tumor site. It can also be given internally; a small container containing a radioactive substance is implanted near the cancer. Radiation treatments are painless, the side effects are usually temporary, and most can be easily treated and controlled. Patients are also likely to feel very tired--particularly in the later weeks of treatment.

Chemotherapy is the use of drugs to kill cancer cells throughout the body. The doctor may use one drug or a combination of drugs. Because the drugs travel through the body, healthy cells are also affected. The side effects of chemotherapy depend primarily on the drugs and the dosage the patient receives. Hair loss is a common side effect. Anti-cancer drugs may also cause fatigue, infections, loss of appetite, nausea and vomiting, diarrhea, and mouth or lip sores. Drugs that prevent or reduce nausea and vomiting can help with most of these side effects, which gradually go away after the treatment ends.

Hormone therapy is used to treat certain cancers that depend on hormones for their growth. Hormone therapy keeps cancer cells from using the hormone they need to grow. Another type of hormone therapy is surgery to remove organs that produce hormones. For example, ovaries may be removed to treat breast cancer or testicles may be removed to treat prostate cancer.

Biological therapy stimulates the body's immune system to fight disease and can lessen some of the side effects of cancer treatment. Interferon, interleukin-2, and colony stimulating factors are some types of biological therapy. The side effects vary with the specific treatment. In general, these treatments tend to cause flu-like symptoms, such as chills, fever, muscle aches, weakness, loss of appetite, nausea and diarrhea. These problems can be severe, but rapidly go away when the treatment stops.

Thanks to rapidly improving health care treatments and medical breakthroughs, a diagnosis of cancer no longer means an automatic death sentence. Millions of people, world-wide have beaten this insidious disease and have gone on to live long and productive lives. YOU CAN TO!

Bad Breath Is it destroying your confidence?

Bad Breath - Is it destroying your confidence?

Whilst this may sound like a weird heading to be linking confidence and bad breath together many sufferers of breath problems will know exactly what I mean.

How often have you turned your head slightly when talking to someone to avoid breathing on them? Or had someone comment on how bad your breath smells. It is like being slapped in the face. No body likes it including me. But there is a way to control it or even stop it all together.

In the following page you will find out exactly how I overcome bad breath and some of the finer details about breath related problems.

What causes Bad Breath?

In most cases bad breath (halitosis) is caused by or related to oral bacteria. The wastes of oral bacteria are actually sulfur compounds and it is usually these compounds that will be the cause of your bad breath.

The build up of plaque can also largely contribute to the production of oral bacteria. It only takes a layer of .1 to .2 of a millimeter of plaque to provide an environment in which this bacteria can flourish.

What about foods, can they be a cause?

Absolutely, eating foods and drinks such as garlic, onions, cheese, orange juice, soda, meat product, dairy products and high protein foods.

Also when food becomes lodged between your teeth and around the gums it lends a very big part in the production of oral bacteria.

How do I treat bad breath.

In almost all cases bad breath is caused by a problem of some sort in the mouth. In which case it stands to reason that a visit to the dentist can help determine what is wrong. In the case that you may need dental treatment this may be the cause of your problems.

However if no oral cause can be found then it is possible that a trip to a clinic or practice that specializes in bad breath is required.

Bad Breath - What you can do to prevent it.

That being said I suffered a rude awakening when my girlfriend started commenting on my breath problems (being a dental nurse I respect her opinion in this regard). So I consulted my dentist.

I was told to floss regularly, shown how to brush properly and also suggested I use closys II as a mouth wash.

I have not had bad breath since I have started using Closys II and in my opinion is the best mouthwash out. To read more about Closys II go to http://www.toothwhiteningaustralia.com.au/bad-breath-treatment.php

Here are the steps outlined below that you can use to prevent bad breath

Brush regularly twice a day if possible.
Ensure that you floss each day.
Make sure you drink enough water (This can help flush your mouth of unwanted food particles)
Use a mouthwash after brushing. For best effect do this at night time.

I have followed these simple steps and no longer worry about bad breath. Neither will you if you put some of the points in this article to good use.

Bariatric Surgery Complications

Although many patients have few problems after bariatric surgery, there is the potential for complications, both small and large, just as there is with any surgical procedure. Minor complications can include dietary intolerance, hair loss, dry skin, menstrual irregularities, or pain. Other complications that may occur include dumping, stenosis, a narrowing of the gastric pouch's outlet, vitamin or mineral deficiencies and anemia, gallstones, and vomiting caused by stretching the pouch.

More serious risks, ones that may need emergency attention, include bleeding, blood clots, infection, leakage of stomach acids, bowel obstructions, or hernia. Additional surgeries may be needed to correct any health problems that occur because of these complications. Of course, death is a risk as well, although the risk is less than one percent. Patients with a very high BMI and/or severe medical conditions are at the highest risk, but death can also occur in any patient.

Although significant weight loss occurs for nearly all bariatric surgery patients, regaining the weight is also a risk. Patients who do not maintain their lifestyle changes and eating behaviors may fall back into old habits and find that the scale is beginning to creep back up. Although significant weight gain after the initial weight loss is fairly infrequent, those who do experience it may have feelings of failure and depression.
Bariatric Surgery provides detailed information on bariatric surgery, including cost, patients, centers, diet, financing, and complications, as well as specific procedures like laparoscopic and bypass surgery. Bariatric Surgery is the sister site of Gastric Bypass Surgery Web.

Attention: Wheelchairs for Rent!

When you are in need of wheelchairs and you cannot afford to buy a new one, there are lots of wheelchair rental shops where you can go. But before renting a chair, you have to know the pros and cons of the wheelchairs which are available in the market today and if they provide maximum comfort, mobility and independence. This chair comes in different sizes and shapes with a variety of options to meet the needs of those people who have different levels of physical disabilities and different interests.

At present, the existence of various shops offering wheelchair rentals is an advantage to travelers and to disabled people. How does the renting process start and end? Well, start your search using your Yellow Pages directories and the online Yellow Pages directory website. Then, take your time to call your rental shop and make a reservation to assure that the wheelchair that you're going to rent is available on the dates of your choice. Based on the services, scooters, manual and electric wheelchairs, and other mobility vehicles may be available for rent by the day, week or month.

Also, it is advantageous to know that many elderly people who often utilize canes or walkers rent transport wheelchairs on weddings or sight-seeing vacations. However, an all-terrain wheelchair is ideal for an outdoor cottage vacation by allowing you to get closer to nature and discover beautiful forest habitats because it is suitable over grass, gravel, in water, and through sand. Also, if you have average upper body strength, a manual wheelchair that is driven by the arms is best for you, or a battery-operated electric wheelchair.

In addition, there are also other wheelchairs that are intended for athletes who want to participate in sports like racing, tennis or basketball, wheelchairs for teenagers that can be extended and expanded as the child grows up, and wheelchairs for basically immobile people. At present, there are also a variety of accessories such as hoists, cushions and small cranes that can pick up these wheelchairs when they're placed into cars and vans, as well as lifts and ramps for the home and the car.

Therefore, when you are going to rent a wheelchair, always know your purpose and keep that in mind. You must first know the intention of using the wheelchair and the person who will use it. Remember that renting wheelchairs is indeed a great convenience for persons with disabilities who love to travel because these chairs are designed to create mobility and independence.

Intelligence Failure and the next Armageddon

I like figures of contrast. Like oxymoron. I like it very much. But what is an oxymoron? you may ask. One dictionary defines it as a phrase that combines two words that seem to be the opposite of each other. It gives one example: a deafening silence. But I am going to give you a long list: Extinct life. Temporary tax increase. Plastic glasses. Terribly pleased. Political science. Tight slacks. Definite maybe. Pretty ugly. Working vacation. Exact estimate. Microsoft works.

If you want to fully understand the contrasting elements, turn the phrases into sentences: Microsoft is working. This is the exact estimate of the budget. I am on a working vacation. She is pretty ugly. And so on. Put differently, Microsoft means work and work means Microsoft. Exact means estimate and estimate means exact. Definite means maybe and maybe means definite. Pretty means ugly and ugly means pretty. And so on.

It is for this reason that I like the English language. Because you can use one word to represent so many things. Such as Make no mistake about it. (Used to make sure that your listeners do not mistake what you are saying.) And undisclosed, secret location. (Used to let listeners know that what is secret is undisclosed and what is undisclosed is secret.) But those words are in a separate group called circumlocution, simply meaning going round and roundthe way sailors and astronauts do. Like Francis Drake. Like Yuri Gagarin. In my innocent school days, we use to call it eating about the bush. But these days, Bush is beating about the desert.

Now, one more phrase has crept into the oxymoron family: Intelligence failure. Consider this sentence: The terrorists destroyed the twin towers because of intelligence failure. Therefore, intelligence means failure and failure means intelligence. It may also mean that no human being is to blame for the collapse of the twin towers. Because intelligence failure, which is neither man nor animal is to be held accountable.

There have been two classic examples of intel failure in history. Consider the Pearl Harbor disaster of December 7, 1941. When the Japanese Imperial Navy came and attacked on that day, the Americans got it all wrong. First, the sneaky Japs knowing that the U.S. patrols were weakest north of Pearl Harbor took that route, risking the turbulent winter sea and maintaining strict radio silence.

Next, the two army privates on duty at Opana Mobile Radio Station on the Island of Oahu, smelt trouble. They saw unusually large lips on the oscilloscope, an indication that more than 50 ships were coming to attack. But when they informed the Information Center about this, the Information Officer told them to go to sleep. He had mistaken the ships for a flight of American B-17 bombers coming in from the mainland.

That was not all. The 14-part message that was sent by the Japanese government to its envoy in Washington D.C., to be delivered by 1:00 p.m. December 7, 1941, had earlier been intercepted by the U.S. before its arrival. Franklin D. Roosevelt, who was president at the time, had interpreted the message to mean war. But where and when would it take place? No one knew. Some fingered Thailand.

Again, the message was delivered late because the Japanese embassy secretaries delayed in typing the document in English. So by the time that Cordell Hull, the secretary of state, received the message, war had already begun. At the end, over 2,330 Americans died, while 1,140 were wounded. It was actually a day which will live in infamy, according to F.D. Roosevelt. No thanks to missed intelligence. The resulting anger led to war with Japan, which culminated in the destruction of Hiroshima and Nagasaki by the atom bomb in August 1945.

Then came 9/11. And intelligence failed again! Not that the Americans did not know that al-Qaeda was a threat. Bill Clinton knew. George Bush jr. knew. But the risk was underestimated, just as it never crossed anyone's mind that Japan could wreak havoc on America.

Again, the U.S. Administration didn't know when and where the terrorist organization would strike. There were vague warnings and missed leads as in Pearl Harbor.

Moreover, the terrorists used America's weakest frontplanes flying around the country. Who would have dreamt about that? So while the coast guards were busy watchdogging the borders, and the intercontinental ballistic missiles were waiting for an early warning signal to launch a counter attack, the sneaky terrorists were seizing planes and attacking the soul of America.

It was after about 3,000 lives went with the Trade Center, that Americans came to their senses. The rest is now living history. The big question now is: If intelligence failed twice within a lifetimeprecipitating destruction of gigantic proportionscan it fail again? The right answer is yes.

In my book CHASING SHADOWS!, I wrote that the enemy we are searching for in far away lands, is within us, and that 'Armageddon' is yet to come. Intelligence will continue to fail because we live in an imperfect world.

So although the 9/11 Commission is making effort to unravel what went wrong (the chairman is promising Americans surprising findings), and Democrats and Republicans are trying to demonize each other, the bottomline is that intelligence failed. Do not blame Bush. Blame not Clinton. There must be intelligence failure. For man is imperfect. It could have happened if Mr. Intelligence had been the president of America. Because intelligence means failure and failure means intelligence.

As you read this, intelligence officers are working at full trot briefing heads of states about he next move of terrorists and last minute plans to checkmate their move. But no one is asking the right questions: Why is the world in turmoil? Why do we need intelligence? Why would a virgin decide to bomb herself to death? What would make some people decide to end civilization by a chemical bomb? What can be done to bring lasting peace to the world?

It is my belief that if we do not get the right answers to these questions, the world will not have peace. Terrorist attacks have continued unabateddefying intelligenceand will ever continue. (See what's happening in Spain. Next stop, Great Britain.)

All lovers of peace would wish that the world leaders gave attention to the real causes of terrorism. Otherwise, we might wake up tomorrow and find the world on fire on the day of 'Armageddon.' Do not blame the innocent oxymoron, intelligence failure. For we are all to blame.

Are You Really Overweight?

If you are overweight, you know it by how you feel, how your clothes fit or how you look. But, by how much are you really overweight? And how much weight do you need to lose? One measure of how much you should weight is by determining your Body Mass Index, BMI. This index gives you the relationship of your weight to your height. Here is the formula:

Your BMI = [(yourWeight)/(your Height x your Height) x 705

If you weight 143 lbs and are 64 in tall, then

your BMI = [(143) / (64 x 64) x 705 = 26.2. Based on the chart below a BMI of 26.2 is overweight.

underweight, BMI = 18.5
normal weight BMI = 18.5 - 24.9
overweight BMI = 25 - 29.9
slight obesity BMI = 30 - 34.9
obese BMI = 35 - 39.9
excess obese = BMI = greater than 40

If we consider the normal BMI number to be 21.5 then you can compute approximately how much weight you should lose using the same BMI formula but by changing things around in the formula,
(your ideal Weight) = [(normal BMI / 705) x (your Height x your Height)

For the example above if you have a BMI = 26.2 and the normal BMI number = 21.5, then,

(your ideal Weight) = [(21.5/705) x (64 x 64) = 124.91

you should weight 124.91 lbs. That means you need to lose (143 -124.9) lbs = 18.1 lbs.

Try to get your BMI below 25. Under this number, you can expect to have good heath if you are eating the right kinds of food and exercising regularly. If your BMI is greater than 28, you are more likely to have cardiovascular diseases, diabetes, and many other diseases related to a toxic colon.

Keep track of your waistline. Your waistline, if you are a man, should be less than 35 . For women it should be less than 30. As your waistline get larger you become more susceptible to diseases. Of course, waistlines are going to vary because people have different shapes. But you know if your waistline to big for your shape.

Now you should know how much weight you need to lose. Beside your waistline, you should also measure bust/chest, hips, and thighs.. This gives you an indication how your body is changing. As you lose fat you may not lose weight for a while. Your body will become toned as you exercise. The weight scale does not always tell you that your body is changing and losing weight.

Are You Suffering from the Autopilot Dilemma?

An epidemic is occurring all around you, and there is a good chance it has already found its way into your life. It begins slowly at first, nearly imperceptible. But it grows. In time it can take over your entire life. I have seen it happen too many times, and if you don't act now, it may happen to you.

It's easy to fall into the trap. Well-intentioned individuals of all ages don't mean for it to happen, but that doesn't matter. It takes much more than good intentions to steer clear of this problem. If all it took was good intentions the world would be packed with people living their dreams and accomplishing their goals. But that's not how it works, and this trap is one of the most common reasons why it has happened too often in the past, and will continue to happen in the future.

What exactly are we dealing with here? What is so deadly to the goals and hopes you have stored away in your head?

Routine.

ACTION WITHOUT PURPOSE
A very unusual experiment was conducted by John Fabre, the French naturalist, consisting of processionary caterpillars, a type of caterpillar that blindly follows the one in front of it. This explains the name processionary caterpillar. The experiment consisted of several of these caterpillars, a flowerpot filled to the rim with dirt, and pine needles.

The caterpillars formed a complete circle around the rim of the flowerpot, with the first one touching the back of the last one. The pine needles, the food of the processionary caterpillar, were placed in the center of the circle.

The caterpillars began their procession around the flowerpot, one following the other in a circle. This went on hour after hour, day after day, for an entire week. In the end, every one of the caterpillars dropped dead of starvation.

The one thing that could have saved them was only six inches away, but without purposeful thought or action, the caterpillars continued with a habitual routine that eventually proved too much to endure.

This is happening to people you know, maybe even you, although not to this degree. Get stuck doing the same old thing every single day and your goals, sitting only inches away, are as good as gone.

Plain and simple. You might think it's a little too simple, but falling into a routine can destroy your life. I have very strong beliefs about this because I have seen it happen to people close to me, as I'm sure you have as well. Good friends and family start off with bright hopes for the future, but their routine begins to take their place. 'No time, no time,' is a common excuse. After seventy years of having no time to do the things you have always wanted to do you'll end up with nothing but a good excuse in the end.

This is your life we are talking about here. It's worth taking the time to break the pattern of habit and creating the changes you wish to make. There is little more that is as important as the life you create and the good you leave behind. Recognize if you are in a routine and break free.

IT'S NOT YOUR MORNING ROUTINE
The routines I'm referring to are much deeper than a morning process of a shower and shave. I'm talking about turning off your brain and letting autopilot kick in. Doing the same things you did the day before with no plans to change the pattern any time soon.

You know the drill - wake up, shower, work, home, sleep, repeat. This is no way to live, and you know that. But it's still hard to break free once the routine has gotten hold of you. All hope is not lost. If you want to turn off the autopilot and start taking control of your life it takes only one moment to make the decision. And then everything changes.

You've heard it a thousands times, and it's a good thing, because it's true. If you keep doing what you have always done in the past you will keep getting the exact same results. People experience a partial insanity when it comes to routine. Perfectly logical creatures believe that doing the same thing again and again will get different results. That's crazy!

If you want to lose weight but continue with the same eating habits, you won't lose weight. If you want to have more energy but stay up until four and get up at six it won't happen. You have goals, just like everyone else. If you are stuck in a routine you won't accomplish them. Be honest with yourself about this one. It's the only way you'll realize the need for a change before you can enjoy improvement.

BREAK THE PATTERN!
What does it take? It takes a decision. A choice of what you really want to do with your life and the corresponding actions to make it happen. I want you to create a plan for your future and the goals you want to accomplish. If you know where you are going and how to get there you will not be disappointed in the end.
