Are You Ready To Lose Weight?

Are You READY To Lose Weight?

I know, I know. What a crazy question!

Considering that we've all tried so many diets until we can give calorie counts in our sleep - where do I get off asking a question like that?

But bear with me please. This may actually get you closer to your weight loss goals than you think!

We've heard it a million times but it's true:

Losing weight permanently is not just a quick fix.

It's not taking a magic pill and waking up the next morning with a body fat count of 10%. It's not reading the latest diet-book-of-the-week and 'poof!' you're a size 6. It's not getting into 'the zone' for half a day and all your weight troubles disappear.

But you know that right? We all know that!

But if we know that why do we jump from diet to diet to diet? From weight loss plan to weight loss plan?

Why do we keep trying the latest way to lose weight? Why do we get discouraged so easily? Why do we give up and think it's just not possible?

Here's the truth: Losing weight is a life change, plain and simple.

Funny how we cut ourselves some slack with other life changes like moving or getting married or having a baby, but not with losing weight! Why not?

Are all those infomercials promising fast, easy weight loss getting to us? Are the constant images of thin models and size 0 actresses making us think it's easy?

I don't know what it is but it seems that the first thing we have to do when deciding to lose weight is ask ourselves if we're really ready for that kind of life change.

Are you ready to change your eating and exercise habits for good? Are you willing to move permanently towards a healthier way of life?

We also have to realize that letting go of extra weight requires letting go of other things as well. Like the way we might do things, or the way we think about food and eating. It requires us to be open to change, to be ready to see what works and what doesn't.

So before we choose a method of losing weight, we should decide if we're truly READY to lose weight or not.

Key point: It's ok, if you're not!

For one reason or another you might not be ready yet for a change in your lifestyle - that's ok. Accept yourself and wait until you are truly ready.

BUT if you are ready, if you are determined to lose weight WHATEVER it takes, if you're open to the kind of life changes losing weight will requirethen look out baby. Here you come!

Because when you decide that you're truly ready to lose weight, nothing will stop you!

Ultimate Weight Loss: Fight Fat and Win

Copyright 2005 Michel Landry

As if you needed another reason to hit the snooze button, recent study concluded that your odds of being overweight are 24% lower for each additional hour you sleep. That's great and all, but what are those of us who work 50 hours a week on top of training and watching reruns on TV supposed to do with such findings?

Now there are different ways you can lose weight while you sleep. Some of us are spending the big bucks and taking products like 5-hydroxytryptophan, Conjugated Linoleic Acid, Gymnema Sylvestre, Glucomannan, Guggulsterone, fish oil and Gamma-Aminobutryic.

Guggu what? Yeah these products all help. But this can be complicated trying to work in all these pills. And some of us cant afford $400 a month in products.

So how do we cut the cost and lose weight while getting the limited amount of sleep that we get? Well try getting some natural and easy to find supplements such as Apple Cider Vinegar, Ginger Root, Garcinia Cambogia, Cayenne, Bladderwack and Bromelain.

All of these will help speed up your motabolism without getting your heart going like a lab rat and they will work for you while you sleep. Not only will they help with weight loss, but they will help your body in general.

Also Green Tea and Black Coffee can boost your metabolism without adding significant calories to your diet. Its the little things or changes that will help you keep your weight down where you like it.

BATTLE BLEMISHES

When fighting blemishes it is essential that you use the right cleansers for your skin. Regardless of whether you have teenage acne or adult acne a gentle cleanse should always be a necessary part of your daily routine.

Every individual has different skin needs. But what doesn't differ is that everyone's skin needs to be cleaned to remove excess dirt brought about by the outside environment. Gentle cleansing is the first place to start.

Use a water-soluble cleanser:

Water-soluble cleansers are great because they gently cleanse your skin without stimulating the oil glands. A gentle cleanse does not cause redness or dryness. It also makes the skin feel soft and releases oil and dirt gently without damaging the skin.

Once you leave those dry, irritating pore-clogging bar cleansers and soaps behind, you will notice a distinct difference in the way your skin looks and feels. But you must remember to ONLY stick to water-soluble cleansers which are free of exfoliating agents, oil absorbing ingredients and topical disinfectants. These harsh ingredients do very little for the skin because these active ingredients are quickly washed away - not providing any benefit on the skin at all. These ingredients are best used in the other stages of the cleansing process - like moisturizers, exfoliators or for disinfecting the skin.

But it is important to not only cater to the outside of your body but also you must cater to your body from the inside-out. Make sure you are eating anti-oxidant rich, non-inflammatory foods like hazelnuts, salmon, celery, cucumbers, apples, yogurt and pomegranates.

Many people do not realize this, but there are many natural foods that can actually lead to skin inflammation. We are always told to eat fruits and vegetables because they're better for us than processed foods. However, some of these fruits and vegetables can actually be detrimental to our skin.

Did you know that inflammation actually plays a role in the development of swelling and disease? It also plays a role in acne and aging.

In youthful-disease free skin, when looking at the skin under a microscope, no inflammation is visible. However it is present in older skin. This is also the same for acne-prone skin.

Basically, the foods we eat are just as important as the foods we should avoid - like flour, bread, bananas, cream cheese, granola and honey. You thought these were good you're your skin? Nope, think again! These foods are inflammation inducing foods which can actually leave our skin looking tired, puffy and prone to break-outs.

The list goes on (with natural foods that are bad for the skin), but if you want to learn more visit www.acne-secrets.com. There you will find all natural tips, information and treatments for acne. These are the secrets the pharmaceutical and drug companies won't tell you about.

Take care of your skin it is well worth it.

Advice On Golf Training Aid Products

There are many different types of golf swing faults and  golf training aids can go a long way in helping any golfer deal with their specific problem area.

The golf swing is the essence of the golf game and therefore it would not be a bad idea to get even two golf training aids that are specific to your swing fault.

The golf training aid that I have found to be very effective is the weighted club. This is a very golf-specific golf training aid as you go through the exact same motions you do with an ordinary club but with more weight. This greatly helps in strengthening and conditioning all the relevant muscles.

The inside approach is another great golf training aid to help improve any golf swing. This particular device is extremely useful for slicers and helps deal with this problem fairly quickly.

Another golf training aid is exercise tubing, which is very affordable and yet very effective. The strength of this device is in its' ability to break down the golf swing into as many different phases as you would like to focus on for the sake of improvements. It offers specific resistance training for each phase.

A stability ball is a golf training aid than any golfer with a bad back should have. There are almost countless different stretch exercises that you can with it. And what makes this golf training aid even more attractive is the fact that you can do your exercises in the office or at home when you have a moment.

A simple p[air of dumbbells can be a golf training aid that is very useful to any golfer. They are usually very portable and there are many exercises that can be done with hand weights.

Use of a golf training aids all boils down to the golfer knowing exactly what they are doing when using it.

Auto Lemon Can Your State's Lemon Law Help You?

Buying a car is not like buying a radio; you cannot return it to the store for a refund if you do not like it, or if it has a manufacturing defect. In fact, for many years, if you purchased an automobile that came from the factory with defects, you were just stuck. You could try to get the dealer to repair the problem, but if the problem continued and the dealer could not repair it, you were out of luck.

In 1982, the luck of owners of so-called lemons changed for the better, as California and Connecticut passed the nation's first lemon laws.

These laws, spawned by consumers who had waged tireless battles against major auto companies, allowed owners of defective automobiles to seek compensation or replacement with the help of their respective states. These laws swept like wildfire throughout the country, and now all 50 states have some form of the lemon law.

The specifics of the lemon laws will vary from state to state, but in general, they define a lemon as a vehicle that:

Has a onconformity that affects the safety, use, or value of the vehicle, and
The nonconformity has not been successfully repaired after a easonable number of attempts,

and/or

The vehicle has been out of service for a total of a certain number of days for repair of the nonconformity.

The length of the warranty period also varies; coverage typically runs anywhere from one year or 12,000 miles to two years or 24,000 miles. As previously stated, the specifics vary from state to state, particularly the number of repair attempts that constitute easonable and the number of days that the vehicle must be out of service in order to qualify. In some states, repairs that affect the brakes or other safety equipment need only one repair attempt to qualify as easonable.

Restitution is fairly consistent from state to state; it usually requires the manufacturer to either replace the vehicle with one of comparable value, or refund the purchase price, along with taxes, registration and delivery fees. Some states leave the option of replacement or refund to the manufacturer, but most give the option to the consumer.

What should you do if you think you have a lemon? You should:

Make sure that you document everything relating to repairs of the vehicle, including when and where it was repaired, who signed the work order and what work was done.
You should contact the manufacturer in writing, alerting them to the nature of the problem.
You should consult with your state's Attorney General's office to learn how your state's law affects you directly.

You may have to go through an arbitration process; this involves both you and a representative of the manufacturer explaining your respective situations to a panel that will then provide a ruling. The arbitration ruling is usually binding on the manufacturer; they will have no recourse should the panel rule in your favor. Generally, if you don't agree with the panel's ruling, you still have the option of filing a lawsuit in court.

You may wish to hire an attorney to represent you; there are plenty of lawyers who specialize in lemon law cases, and they can probably bring the case to a solution more quickly than if you handle the case yourself. Be sure to contact your state's Attorney General's office regarding the specifics of your own state's lemon law. You don't want to miss a deadline, or you could be stuck with your lemon for a long time.

Do You Need to Have a High IQ to Be a Success?

You have probably heard the term IQ many times, and you probably know it has something to do with measuring intelligence.

The letters IQ stand for intelligence quotient, and an IQ test is widely used as a way to measure intelligence.

The test most frequently used today to measure intelligence is called the Stanford-Binet Intelligence Test. The earliest version of it was developed in France in 1905. The original test has been revised several times over the years, with a major revision completed at Stanford University in 1960. The Stanford-Binet test is not the only intelligence test, but it is probably the best known.

IQ tests are often used by educational institutions to segregate students into categories such as ormal, gifted, and challenged. Children and young people are scored relative to each other on a variety of factors, including verbal and logical understanding, vocabulary, arithmetic and spatial orientation.

A person with an IQ score of 100 is deemed to be of average intelligence, while a person with an IQ above 130 is deemed to be intellectually gifted.

Do you know your own IQ? Do you know what it means?

Although the IQ test is very widely used, and the results are almost synonymous with our idea of intelligence, there has also been a lot of criticism of the test, and of the way the results are used.

Does having a high IQ score guarantee success in later life? No, it doesn't! It doesn't even guarantee success in school.

A Canadian television program recently tracked down some of the people with the highest IQ scores in North America. One man who has an extremely high genius IQ works as a motorcycle mechanic, hangs out with biker gangs, and is frequently in and out of jail. Another man interviewed on the program has the highest IQ recorded in North America. He has worked as a bouncer in a bar for ten years, earns minimum wage, and lives in a tiny garage. Clearly, a high IQ is not enough to guarantee success in life.

What IQ tests measure is a certain type of potential. That potential still needs to be developed and nurtured by the person who has it. That person may not have the inclination or desire to do so. Not everyone who has a potential talent also possesses the desire to do something with it. One person may have a wonderful God-given singing voice, but may have no interest in music, and no desire to perform. Another person may have the perfect physique to be a high jumper, but may hate sports. You can probably think of other examples. Having potential is just a beginning.

The IQ tests we have now may predict which people have a certain type of intellectual potential, but they don't necessarily predict who will become a good teacher, a good manager, a good president, or a good parent. Some critics say that the only thing IQ tests can really predict is who will do well on IQ tests.

Qualities such as determination and vision can be more important to your ultimate success in life than the IQ number you started out with. Being creative, optimistic, and flexible are important hallmarks of many successful people. Common sense, the ability to get along with other people, and knowing a good idea when you see one, may be more useful qualities than having a genius IQ.

Although IQ tests measure a certain aspect of intelligence potential, there isn't complete agreement that what is being measured is actually intelligence. Standard intelligence tests focus a lot on exploring and measuring linguistic/logical/mathematical ability. But is that really the same quality as intelligence? Or is intelligence something broader than that?

We have all met people who have a lot of ook smarts but seem to have no life smarts. Should we really be saying that they are intelligent? Some people who did poorly in school often turn out to be very successful in later life. Why do our current IQ tests seem unable to predict or explain these outcomes?

A person may have failed dismally in school, and yet turn out to be a genius in marketing. Is this person stupid, or brilliant? If a man is a great scientist, but can't ever pick a suitable mate, is he really very smart? Was Picasso inept because he wasn't also a brilliant mathematician? Was Einstein inadequate because he wasn't also a great artist?

Which of these two men had more intelligence? Is there more than one kind of intelligence? How should we define intelligence? Can we really measure it? What is intelligence, really?

Several experts in the field of intelligence have proposed that we need to broaden our understanding of what intelligence really is, and the role it plays in successful living.

Psychologist Howard Gardner of Harvard University has suggested that we should consider a wide range of talents and abilities as valid forms of intelligence. In his intriguing book, Frames of Mind: Theories of Multiple Intelligences, Gardner has proposed the existence of at least seven types of intelligence: verbal-linguistic, logical-mathematical, visual-spatial, musical, bodily-kinesthetic, social-interpersonal and intra-personal.

Another psychologist, Robert Sternberg, has suggested we consider three distinct forms of intelligence. One type is the ability to think logically and rationally, doing well in an academic type of environment. A second kind of intelligence identified by Sternberg is the ability to come up with creative solutions to real life situations. And the third type, according to Sternberg, is the ability to psychologically understand people and interact effectively with them.

A very different perspective on the IQ issue is presented by Daniel Goldman in his best-selling book, Emotional Intelligence. Goldman offers an explanation for why a high IQ does not always lead to success in career or in life. He says that EQ, or emotional intelligence, has been an overlooked factor that is an extremely important ingredient for success in life. An ability to get along with others, to be optimistic, to be determined, are among the many factors that contribute to success, perhaps even more than intellectual ability.

Are you starting to realize that intelligence is not just a question of one test score number that forever limits your possibilities? If we define intelligence primarily as an aptitude for mathematical and linguistic/logical thinking, we may be missing other forms of intelligence that are also important.

If you happen to know your own IQ score, don't think of it as something that limits or defines your potential. If your IQ is in the average range it does not in any way mean you are limited to a life of average success and average accomplishment. If your IQ is in the above average range, it does not guarantee you a life of ease. You can't use either a high IQ score or a low one as an excuse not to try very hard.

Your IQ score is only a number. It does not define you. It does not really limit you. It's just a starting point. Remember that many other qualities you already possess or can develop are also important for success in life.

Natural Cycles

The top income, the best job title: these markers are no longer the standard of success. So reports CNBC's show Power Lunch recently. This show reviewed results of a survey indicating the top priority for business school graduates now is a balance between family life and work.

Natural cycles awareness helps us get on the balanced-life track. This month we look at one part of natural timing, the retrograde motion of planets.

As viewed from earth, the planets sometimes appear to be traveling backward. This backward travel, called retrograde motion, is a phenomena recognized in both astronomy and astrology.

Retrograde motions are about patience. They are times when our plans to go forward are halted. Retrograde periods are times to bring play and family into the forefront of our lives. During retrograde periods we are reworking plans. We are going backward to get something we overlooked -- an idea, an opportunity. These kinds of creative discoveries are best realized through the spontaneity of play and the supportive comfort of family and friends.

Mercury, one of the planets in our solar system, goes retrograde three times a year. Energetically, Mercury is associated with communication, technology, and things which are mechanical. Retrograde periods of Mercury are the times when miscommunications, delays, or technical and mechanical challenges seem prevalent.

Just picture it: energy is trying to go backward and we are trying to go forward. Something has to give. You can guess it is not going to be the planet that gives, in this case Mercury. The planet is going to go it's way. We can either be aggravated, impatient, frustrated. Or, we can stop and reassess.

With knowledge of Mercury retrograde periods we can stop personalizing delays. We can start cushioning expectations, knowing we can only go so far when the motion is not forward. We can take the pressure off of over-work and bring in a little play.

Mercury turned retrograde on April 14. On May 8 1997, Mercury turns in a forward motion again. The point where Mercury turned retrograde on April 14 is called a station. Mercury passes this station on May 26. For the three week period when Mercury is retrograde one may expect natural delays and possible communication, technological or mechanical challenges. When Mercury turns direct on May 8 these matters start to clear up. When Mercury passes it's station on May 26 one can expect forward motion in the areas of communication and technology.

We have another retrograde energy we are dealing with now, Mars retrograde. Mars is the planet of drive and initiative. Many people have been experiencing delays in their work and the forward motion of projects.

On February 6 of this year Mars turned retrograde. Mars turns direct on April 29. On July 2, Mars passes it's station, the point where it turned retrograde in early February. During this Mars retrograde period we have the opportunity to come to a deeper sense of what energizes us -- what we want. As plans are delayed we keep refining them. After April 29, and especially after July 2, we will start to feel forward momentum again. This motion forward is in the areas of our personal power within business and relationships.

How can planetary motion possibly affect my business? is a question I am sure some readers will ask. The new physics teaches us gravity is not the only force in nature. Through electromagnetism and strong and weak forces the new physics tells us that everything in nature is interconnected. As above, so below.

Paying attention to the information of natural cycles helps us feel part of, rather than separate from, the fluid movement of energy. We can move with the natural clock, rather than against it. Check out the events of your life in relation to the dates mentioned above. See if there are links. If you do not see a match, that is fine, too. No one world view is for everyone.

As The Primary Caregiver Should I Journal My Feelings About

Being a caregiver is stressful and difficult. It involves contradictory feelings, thoughts and frustrations. When you have to care for a loved one who has Alzheimer's, you have to be patient, talk with a calm voice and never alk down to your loved one.

Journaling your thoughts and feelings will definitely help you cope with the situation. Write in your journal all that comes through your mind and your heart; nobody but you will read it. It is between you and your journal. Let your pen guide you through the pages. You may want to do some extra research on Alzheimer's disease to better understand the process and stages your loved one will pass through. If you are a little bit knowledgeable about the disease, the process of caring will be easier on both you and your loved one.

You can keep daily notes on your loved one, such as bathing or eating changes, whether she becomes agitated, and so on. It can also help you remember things to discuss with the doctor.

The good thing about a journal is that it is handy and you can write whenever you feel like it, day or night. It will never contradict you. On the contrary, it will aid you in dealing with your internal emotions; it will relieve your mind and your soul. If you are uncomfortable about writing, then it may be easier for you to express your feelings by recording them on a tape recorder. If you like, you can recall some family gathering you all had together, a camping trip or fishing trip where your loved one caught a BIGGGGG fish! You can read this part to him and it might trigger some memory in your loved onea memory that was lost to Alzheimer's.

Journaling will also help you release the burden of care giving you may have. Releasing the burden through the pen will definitely ease the pain. But journaling should not be the only way out for these strong feelings you have. You may want to enroll in a support group. You can check through the Alzheimer's Association if there is such a group in you area. Speaking to other people will help in getting all these negative emotions out. And most of the participants are dealing with exactly the same emotions because they have to care for a loved one who has dementia. Sometimes, speaking out loud and getting out these feelings will do you a lot of good and you will feel much better after. You may even make friends through these groups, friends that will be able to support you as time goes on.

Remember, you are not alone. You have friends and family to talk to. Maybe you can ask a family member to help with your loved one. It will ease the burden and give you more time to yourself, to journal and to recharge your batteries.

He is a frequent guest on radio and television and has developed innovative solutions to guide families who have a loved one suffering from Alzheimer's. Are You Killing Your Beautiful Dream?

It's one of the saddest events I see and unfortunately, I see it far too often. Fear, the most destructive of human emotions, succeeds in totally ruining the dreams and ambitions of millions and millions of people EVERY YEAR.

And the real sad part is that the people involved give in to their fears and kill their beautiful dream. Any chance of experiencing a fulfilled happy life, of living the life they
truly want, evaporates.

Just why do people kill their dreams?

I want to share with you a true story to illustrate what's happening here.

Recently, I met up with a good friend of mine for a drink. I hadn't seen her for a while and was looking forward to meeting up. Nikkie is a very talented dancer who's never happier than when she's dancing. When I last saw her, she
was buzzing with excitement about 2 stage shows she was performing in and told me of her plans to finish her IT degree course then move to London to pursue her dancing professionally. Eventually, she'd manage her own studio and
teach.

What a great dream, yes? Dancing and performing for a living, then teaching the art to others. Beats the 9-5 rat race, doesn't it?

Her eyes sparkled and she had a real buzz about her. Have you ever felt this way about something? Passion! A constant, unwavering, motivating, inspiring PASSION. Believe me, it is
something I love to find in people. People who feel this way about their dream crackle with energy and are busy living life.

I couldn't wait to hear how her plans were progressing and how her shows had gone. Yes, she is attractive, but what attracted me the most was her passion for her dream. Passion is contagious!

OK, get the tissues ready because here's the sad news:

We met and I knew instantly something had changed. She told me about how hard her exams had been but she'd obtained her degree. Well done, now, what's happening with your dancing?
How did the shows go?

She replied that the shows were fine and then knocked me for 6: I've decided not to pursue dancing now. I've started a graduate management training scheme and I'm going to have a
career in IT instead.

I tried and tried to talk her into pursuing her dream but the buzz had gone. She'd always said the degree was just for back up in case things didn't work out with her dancing. I reminded her of this and she said, resignedly: hings have
changed. Dancing will just be for fun now.

At the root of her decision is fear. The usual fear excuses were all trotted out:

It's so difficult to break in to the top level.

I'd have to move away from home and I'd miss my family too much. Besides, I'd be on my own in a big city.

There's much more money in IT.

I told her others had overcome the first two therefore, she could. But the last one is the real key. I had a fantastic career in IT - I still love working with computers, always
have. Conversely, Nikkie had worked for 6 weeks last summer in an office and HATED EVERY SECOND of it. She was bored, didn't like being indoors and it wasn't active enough for her. And now, with a degree firmly in her hand, she's
willing to sell-out on her dream to do something she hates purely for money and security. She isn't the first to kill her dream for these reasons and she sure won't be the last.

I feel sorry for her. Because now she'll never know how far she could've got as a dancer. Maybe one day she'll return to it and teach and I really hope she does. But it won't be as
the wonderfully fulfilled person who gave everything for her dream and experienced true fulfilment, tremendous satisfaction and the greatest reward of all: the happiness
that comes from achieving success having overcome challenge after challenge.

Yes, going for a dream is real tough. There will be endless hours of work and effort. Years of dedication, tears of frustration, setbacks, knocks, sticking points and failures.
That's the price demanded by success. But my lord is it worth every single second of it when finally, the day dawns when your efforts start to bear fruit. It's a very special feeling, the biggest buzz you or I can ever have.

Your dream is special. You don't need anyone's approval for it, you don't need to make excuses for it and you don't need to be frightened of it. Embrace it. Commit to it. I promise
you, you will not regret it no matter what happens. But if you give-up on it, if you kill it, well...

I'll leave you with the same words I said to Nikkie as we said our goodbyes:

As the years pass, age will bring you time to reflect on your life. If you live a dream your memories will bring you joy and comfort. If you betray it, the memory of your betrayal will haunt you because you'll never know how high
you could've flown. Life is not a dress rehearsal. Please don't give up on your dream.

Beautiful dreams die everyday. Nikkie killed hers. Please don't kill yours too.

Until next time.

Aromatherapy and Essential Oils

Aromatherapy makes use of Essential oils. This 3-Part article will provide some detailed insight into the use of Essential oils in Aromatherapy.

We will look at:
a) Where Essential oils come from,
b) The way Essential oils effect the mind and emotions, and
c) The way Essential oils effect the etheric body or the physcho-spiritual level

a) WHERE DO ESSENTIAL OILS COME FROM ? - Essential Oils - Part 1

The odoriferous substances (Essential oils) themselves are formed in the chloroplasts of the leaves where they combine with glucose to form glucides and are then circulated around the plant in this form. At certain times of the day or year they are stored in particular parts of the plant.

In some plants, the essential oils are produced by the secretory tissues, and in others they are combined with glycosides, and are therefore not detectable until the plant is dried or crushed, e.g.: Valerian

Essential oils are considered to be an important part of the plant's metabolism: some have hormonal activity and others are a stage in some other process, e.g.: the oil found in the rind of the orange is a stage in Vitamin A synthesis.

Essential oils can be found in almost any part of the plant, in differing concentrations, depending on the plant itself, the time of day and year. They may be found in the roots (e.g.: Calamus and Valerian), flowers (e.g. Lavender, Rose,), bark (e.g. Sandalwood, Cedarwood), fruits (e.g.: Lemon, Cardamom, Orange), berries (e.g. Juniper), leaves (e.g. Thyme, Rosemary, Sage).

Plants which contain essences must be picked at the correct time of day and in the correct season, and in particular weather conditions in order that a maximum yield of the essential oils can be obtained, and of course, as with all medicinal or nutritional plants, soil conditions, and climatic conditions will also dictate the quality of the oils obtained.

Heavy, concentrated oils are called ABSOLUTES e.g.: Rose, Jasmine, Oils which are solid at room temperature and which must be warmed before use are called BALSAMS, e.g.: Benzoin and Camphor.

HOW DO ESSENTIAL OILS WORK?

Essential oils are known to have an effect on us in three different, but overlapping, ways.

a) On the physical body, both locally and systemically, via the lymphatic and blood circulation.
b) On the mind and emotions via the Sense of Smell and the Limbic System.
c) On the Etheric Energy System of the body via the energy vibration of the individual oils themselves.

The Way Essential Oils Effect the Physical Body
When Essential oils are applied to the surface of the body, either via Massage, Baths, Compresses, Creams or Lotions, they will have an effect locally (i.e. the site at which they are applied), and Systemically (i.e. throughout the body). The Systemic effect occurs when essential oils are absorbed through the skin into the Lymphatic Circulation, and they are then dumped from the Lymphatic circulation into the blood stream.

Once the oils are circulating in the blood, they are carried to their TARGET ORGAN/S, where they exert a therapeutic effect on the specific tissues. Every Essential oil has its own Target Organ, e.g. Juniper oil targets the urinary tract and kidneys in particular, with secondary effects on the Digestive, Respiratory and Reproductive Systems. Chamomile Oil targets the Nervous System via which it can then exert a broad effect on many other body Systems, like the Digestive Tract for example.

Even when Essential oils are inhaled only, say in the form of a steam inhalation for a cold or as a fumigator for a background psychological effect, the oils will be absorbed across the mucous membranes of the Respiratory Tract and lungs into the blood stream, where once again, they can travel around the body very rapidly.

If Essential Oils are taken orally, their absorption through the Mucosa of the stomach and into the blood is very rapid. Very few essential oils are actually 'digested', which is fortunate as their Therapeutic principles may well be altered if this were the case.

The reason why Essential Oils behave in this manner in the body is because the molecules of which they are composed are organic molecules and very small indeed. Below are some of the more common Therapeutic Properties which can be obtained by using Essential Oils.

SOME THERAPEUTIC PROPERTIES OF ESSENTIAL OILS

1. ANTISEPTIC
All essential oils are to a greater or lesser extent ANTISEPTIC. This is one of their most important and valuable properties. This broad description of ANTISEPSIS includes anti viral, antifungal, anti-bacterial and general anti-microbial activity which is found in such oils as: Lemon, Thyme, Tea Tree, Garlic, Eucalyptus, Cinnamon, Pine, Lavender and Sandalwood.

2. ANTI-INFLAMMATORY
Oils with this property help to ease inflammation. The symptoms of inflammation are typified by pain, redness, swelling, and partial or total loss of function of the tissue involved. Examples of oils with this property are Chamomile, Rose, Lavender, Sandalwood, Myrrh and Benzoin.

3. CYTOPHYLACTIC
Restoration of tissue function and regeneration of cells is another outstanding property of essential oils. Oils such as Pine, Basil and Rosemary are known to restore function to the adrenal glands, Jasmine, Cypress, and Ylang Ylang restore function of reproductive endocrine glands, lavender and chamomile stimulate cell regeneration in the skin.

4. SEDATIVE
Essential oils may also have a pronounced effect on the nervous system by producing relaxation, pain relief and relieving muscle spasm. Oils with these properties include Lavender, Neroli, Rose, Geranium and Ylang Ylang.

However, the most outstanding property possessed by essential oils is their antiseptic/antigenetic properly.

This is well documented in Dr Jean Valnet's book, The Practice of Aromatherapy and he discusses at length the effects of specific oils in relation to the control of extremely virulent microbes like Meningitis bacteria, Golden Staphylococcus bacteria and typhoid bacteria.

In your Reading for Week One, in the Chapter entitled The Healing Power of Plants, from Valnet's book, there are extensive references to the many ways in which essential oils can affect the physical body.

It is critical to your full understanding and appreciation of Essential Oil Therapy that you appreciate the ways in which essential oils can have both a healing and preventive role in diseases involving invasion of the body by microbes.

Are You Chasing the Elusive Butterfly of Happiness?

For many people happiness is an elusive butterfly in the garden of life. Imagine a young child in the garden on a summer day. The child sees a beautiful butterfly flitting from flower to flower. With eyes of wonder the child wants to see it close up, touch it, and hold it in their hands. The child goes towards the flower that the butterfly is resting on, with arms out stretched, only to find as he just gets in reach, the butterfly moves to another flower. Undeterred the child follows the butterfly to the next flower, and then the next, but the butterfly always stays just out of reach.

As adults, happiness can seem just like that butterfly, always just out of reach. It becomes almost an obsession and the words if only become an increasingly large part of our thoughts and vocabulary. If only I had more money I would be happy, if only I was in a great relationship I would be happy, if only I could have a different job.and the list goes on. Even if we achieve one of our if only desires, the happiness we seek is still just out of our reach. The truth of the saying The grass is always greener on the other side of the fence becomes our focus and perception. If this becomes our focus, we find that dissatisfaction and unhappiness increasingly keep growing in our life and experience.

The unhappiness within us can not be completely satisfied by external events or circumstances. To find happiness in life we must first be at peace with ourselves internally. External events and circumstances can bring us happiness in the moment, but they do not have a lasting effect on our inner self. Life experience brings a mixture of good and bad circumstances to everyone. To rely on life's experiences for our source of happiness would mean living life in a constant emotional roller coaster ride.

Happiness comes from within. The inner contentment that survives the roller coaster ride of life has its roots deep within our being. The source of happiness comes from finding and embracing who we are as a person, and living a life of purpose. We need to find peace in every aspect of our life- the physical, mental, emotional and spiritual. To discover acceptance, purpose and peace in all of these areas will give a sense of completion in life. If we neglect any one of these areas, we experience a sense of emptiness and feel something is missing. There is not a solid foundation for building happiness within, but we then, typically start to try to fill this incompleteness by looking for outside solutions. That is the point when we can fall into the 'elusive butterfly' syndrome, and experience such frustration.

Is happiness an elusive butterfly for you? Spend some time in quiet reflection. Are you neglecting one of the four important parts of who you are and experiencing a sense of emptiness within? The more you discover, embrace and accept your uniqueness and purpose, the more you will experience the butterfly of happiness alighting on your shoulder.

Army recovers terrorists' bodies from avalanchehit areas in

Source: www.himalayanaffairs.org

JAMMU, FEB 26: As the death toll in the avalanche-hit Jammu and Kashmir is increasing day by day, the security forces have recovered the bodies of few terrorists who had taken shelter in the foothills of Pir Panjal mountain ranges to escape the clutches of security forces. Little did these terrorists know that they wouldn't be able to escape Nature's fury even if they hide from the army. These terrorists were also buried alive with hundreds of other civilians in the avalanches that stuck in a big way in three Qazigund villages situated in the foothills of Pir Panjal.

Though the army in Kashmir is not confirming these reports, however the sources told The Statesman that a few bodies with weapons and AK-series guns were recovered from the areas in Kapran which had come under heavy snow. Kapran in South Kashmir is heavily militancy-infested area and it touches the areas in the South of Pir Panjal.

Yes, we have also heard these reports that few bodies of terrorists have been recovered but there is no confirmation as yet, said Colonel Batra, the Public Relations Office, 15 Corp of Indian Army based in Badami Bagh, Srinagar.

Not only that, five terrorists who were rescued by the Indian army in its rescue and search operations from the area, have also surrendered after seeing the humanitarian work of the forces. The Union Defence minister Mr Pranab Mukherjee told the media at the technical airport late last evening that this was significant as they were moved by the work being done by the army for the people.

Interestingly, the Army in Jammu and Kashmir is tight-lipped about this development also and nobody is coming out with any information regarding this interesting development.

The chief of army staff General Joginder Jaswant Singh however said the troops wouldn't harm any injured militant voluntarily dropping ammunition before the personnel in the snow avalanche hit areas of South Kashmir.

Coconut Oil Increases Beneficial Properties in Human Breast

COCONUT OIL FOUND BENEFICIAL FOR LACTATING MOTHERS...

The unique composition of human breast milk fat includes the fatty acids, lauric acid and capric acid, which have potent antimicrobial properties. These fatty acids offer the nursing infant protection from viruses such as herpes and HIV, protozoa such as giardia lamblia, and bacteria such as chlamydia and heliocobater.

A study published in 1998 in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition has shown that lactating mothers who eat coconut oil and other coconut products, have significantly increased levels of lauric acid and capric acid in their breast milk. Thus, the milk supply has increased amounts of the protective antimicrobials , which will give even greater protection to the nursing infant.

Pregnant females store fat to assure successful lactation. Any lauric acid and capric acid in the diet becomes part of the adipose stores. The milk fat of a lactating mother is made up of these stores as well as her current diet. If her diet doesn't contain lauric acid, then generally her milk fat will contain around 3% lauric acid and round 1% capric acid.

When a lactating woman adds foods rich in lauric acid to her diet, the amount of lauric acid available in her breastmilk increases substantially to levels three times the original level and nearly double the amount of capric acid. In countries where coconut oil is a diet staple, levels of lauric acid in the mother's milk can be as high as 21% and capric acid can be as high as 6% giving her infant even more protection against viruses, bacteria, and protozoa.

Coconut oil can be used instead of butter in cooking and baking. You can stir it into oatmeal or even use it as a spread. Also, this oil's antimicrobial properties are beneficial for the skin. Pregnant women in many cultures the world over rub cocnut oil on their expanding bellies to keep skin soft and prevent itching.

Baby Boomer Redemption

OK. The American Baby Boomers dropped the anti- establishment ball. So certain in the late sixties and seventies that corporate money grubbing was at the root of nearly every social evil, many bought the myth that things could better be changed from within the system. Many immersed themselves in the system and were swallowed up in busy-ness. New technology, opportunities for economic advancement and security, put questions of right and wrong on the back burner for twenty five years - a sad marker of maturity.

Now they are reaching retirement age and current events are conspiring to remind them of unfinished business. If they can possibly recover the health and energy they lost on their detour, they are going back to the right and wrong of the status quo, they have been supporting.

The naked idealism of their youth created a generation gap with their parents and will likely create the same gap with their children; a generation that largely sees the future as next year and global events as mysteries somehow connected to money. The Baby Boomers will have to find allies among the grandchildren, if they hope to change the future in the next twenty years. I think they will pull it off.

Rejecting their parental role models, the Boomers were truly without any at all. Heroes were scarce. They became a social experiment with very mixed results. They have been pummeled with idealism backlash. They have submitted to pragmatism. It has not fit them or worn well. They are about to shed their pragmatic skins and return to their idealistic roots. They have a hindsight that reinvigorates the possibilities for the future beyond that which was conceivable twenty five years ago. And they have economic power far beyond that of their youth. They can now change trade policies simply by agreeing with each other they need to be changed. They can now see the abject failure of two party politics. Beginning in another five years, the oldest of them will be free to return to political activism. Some aren't waiting.

Half or more of them will choose to remain employed at least part time. At first glance it would seem they will be competing with their children and grandchildren for that employment. That will not be the case. They will become the greatest group of corporate drop outs the world has ever seen. Moving back into the world of individualism, they will create many of the new, unincorporated businesses that will employ millions with better working conditions and personal satisfaction, than has been known before. They will cease their support of universal corporate power and begin creating global hope and prosperity. They will begin setting the examples and providing the models the world craves.

Half of those remaining employed will do so from economic necessity. Lack of private pensions, inadequacy of Social Security and little support from their children will force them to remain employed. However, they will have options they could not imagine before the Twenty First Century.

They will personally take on the responsibility to provide full and profitable employment for all those who want it, not on a mere national scale, but a global one, because their successes will be documented and published globally. They will create worthwhile global models. They will shed the national fraud that we are better because we have more than everybody else. It is as though a generation has patiently awaited the opportunity to take their message around the world.

Neither is it to be expected that U.S. Baby Boomers will be alone in their efforts. Most of those born of World War Two veterans are of common spirit and ready to move beyond social criticism to social activism. We see it with Bill Gates and Ted Turner, Wayne Dyer and Oprah Winfrey. The list of progressive thinkers grows daily and globally. Boomers were sadly deficient in role models. No more. We have them for us and generations that follow. This makes all the difference.

In ten more years philanthropists and global charities will be asking how much they can do with a dollar, instead of how many dollars can we raise and waste. How much difference will that make in social progress? In ten years consumers will convert to disciplined customers and prosumers. People that choose to produce more than they consume and put it on the market at prices the poor can afford. In ten years corporate power will de centralize and move back to informed people as has been promised for a hundred years by those consolidating corporate power. In ten years the people will dare to say no.

In ten years forgiveness will be a political option and the cause of violence will receive more attention than the violence we now call news. In ten more years there will be such a wholesale de centralization of power, political, religious and economic, the whole earth will sigh with relief.

Few today feel free enough to imagine such a future but then, the future has never depended on the many. It has depended on the visionaries and the corruption of their visions by the war and power mongers. They have had their day. Their work is done. The corporate puppets that pass for government are dying off and giving up. Wisdom is replacing rhetoric and popularity, winning new supporters and contributors every day. If you can't see it, perhaps you haven't really been looking. As we approach what seems to be the end of civilization, we begin to appreciate the joke that has passed for civilization for six thousand years. It dawns on us all that we finally have a chance to declare global bankruptcy in all areas of life and truly make a fresh start.

Christian Scripture, corporate power and current events all argue that things will get much worse before they get better. The end time message is: prepare, prepare, prepare. Take it or leave it!

Art of Flirting

Flirting is the way most people determine whether or not a member of the opposite sex is interested in them. Following is a quick outline on how you should go about the complex, sometimes fun, sometimes not so fun, task of flirting. It all beings with your approach.

The Approach

One person approaches the other. They move into closer physical proximity. This much is clear: NO approach equals NO possibility of initiating contact. You must approach!

Example: A woman sits down next to a man in a coffee shop, or a man stands near a woman in a dance club. This is the first step. Once you approach, you begin looking for the signs.

The Signs

The person who has been approached will always signal the other's presence in some waya sign. This signal is not like a train whistle, however, more a subtle body language which you can learn to recognize. For example, he or she simply may look up, move over to make room, nod slightly, or signal with a glancing eye contact.

A display of total obliviousness to the one who is approaching generally indicates lack of interest altogether. Don't be discouraged. But if the one you approached shows absolutely no interest, then it's time to re-group and try again. But let's say the approach works. You have your positive acknowledgement, now what? Time to talk

The Verbal Exchange

The two people may then engage in a mild verbal exchange about impersonal, unimportant matters such as the weather or the scene around them. The key word here is MILD.

This is the classic place for the clever line, but cleverness is not required. At this point, a verbal exchange is not for the purpose of sharing valuable insights about life or determining philosophical compatibility. It is just a vehicle to further the developing contact.

Examples: Verbal overtures might include anything from please pass the pickles to your looking great tonight, to have you seen the waitress?. Without some form of verbal response, it is highly unlikely that the next step will occur. Let's say all is going as planned. Time for body language.

Body Language

Over a period of time, a couple that has begun to talk may also begin to orient themselves physically to one another, to turn toward one another until, if all is goes well, they are fully facing one another. This is your goal.

This step can take minutes or hours . . . or weeks or months . . . to achieve. Yet, without this physical reorientation toward one another, not very much can ever happen, so give up on people who turn their back toward you for long periods of time! But if they don't

Touching

The woman or the man (most often the woman) touches the other in a light, fleeting way. Examples: A couple might accidentally brush their hands against one another while reaching for a drink, or the woman might pat the man on the arm in the middle of a shared joke. The exchange of very subtle, almost glancing touches may continue for some while, and if all goes well, can escalate into the casual affections shown by couples who are dating. If you've reached this point, then flirting has now become the beginning of a relationship. The Art of Flirting should always end with the beginning of a relationship. Now get out there and flirt.

The Art of Flirting is really the Art of making first contact. You only have one shot at making a great first impression. By following some of the guidelines we've established in this article, you should now be equipped to locate, approach, and ascertain whether or not your subtle flirting has opened the doors to a new and exciting relationship.

A Chat with Osama

After speaking with Saddam, I was not especially surprised to hear from Osama. He did not care to speak with me off the record and wanted me to record and publish our conversation. He said he could no longer imagine talking to any American in a position of authority. He said he had been trying to do that for more than twenty years and the response was always; who are you that we should listen? He felt he had satisfactorily answered the question of who he was and noted that it produced no meaningful dialogue.

Osama: I am calling you to speak to the people of the world. Video and audio tapes have not worked very well. Do you have any questions for me?

Ed: Oh yes! Probably many you don't want to answer.

Osama: Try me.

Ed: Why do you attack innocent people?

Osama: We do not attack innocent people. We attack ignorant people who make it their business to support distorted government policies- policies that create humiliation and suffering in far away places. We attack the irresponsible people who serve the policy makers and fraudulent financiers.

Ed: Is that why you attacked the World Trade Center?

Osama: Exactly. Not only were they symbolic of overwhelming economic power, we needed to send a message to the hidden government of money and debt, that their days are numbered. They can hide from the entire world and quietly control everything, but we can bring them down, even if we don't know their names, and we do.

Ed: Then your partially successful attack on Washington D.C. was symbolic of the military power that serves the money power?

Osama. Very good. The idea was to cut off the head of the dragon, and then the limbs, in sequence. We had three Washington targets and only two attack ships, but timing demanded we strike when we did.

Ed: You have made it clear that if at first you don't completely succeed, you try again. I'm assuming that you will try to finish your targets in Washington.

Osama: I'm glad I called you. Since 1993, we have been trying to tell the people of the world that we will not fail in our mission, no matter how long it takes. We have been very patient and know the value of patience. At the same time, we give warning to all who live and work in and near our targets. That is another reason why we are not attacking innocent people. We are attacking targets where people choose to be, in spite of our warnings. They bet we won't succeed and then they lose the bet, again and again. The World Trade Center should have stood empty since '93. Everyone there bet on the U.S. Government and against us. They are doing the very same today in Washington, because Americans refuse to learn from their mistakes and believe they are helpless to change, especially the leaders.

Ed: I cannot argue with that. As I understand it, Al Qaeda and associates are well trained in the use of weapons of mass destruction. Why haven't you used them?

Osama: For many reasons. First, it is not our desire to destroy all the people of America but to awaken them to a reality in global politics, they, like their leaders, choose to ignore. Between attacks we leave space for dialogue. When none develops, we move on to the next step.

Next, there are more than a few logistical problems in moving the weapons to locations close to where they will be used. Saddam has been very helpful in this matter. Operation Iraqi Freedom has created great new opportunities for us. We owe the U.S. a debt for this assistance.

Ed: You mean Saddam's money and cooperation?

Osama: That and more. The things Saddam wanted as head-of-state became very easy to acquire as Saddam-at-large, with pockets full of money. Since this stateless condition is new to him, he quickly teamed up with various stateless movements, with goals similar to his own.

Ed: Such as Al Qaeda and Palestinian fighters?

Osama: Very much like those. You recall his support for the families of the Palestinian suicide bombers. Saddam set up a trust account that will continue that support, long after he is gone. When living in Palestine is more profitable than dying, the bombings will cease. I don't see that happening any time soon.

Ed: I don't think anyone does. You said the Iraqi invasion has been good for you in many ways. Such as?

Osama: Our recruitment has more than doubled our numbers. It is perfectly clear to the average Arab and Islamic believer that Iraq is only the beginning of a grand imperial design for the region. To set up a Westernizing propaganda center and spread out. President Bush calls it spreading Democracy, but it is a thinly veiled attempt to westernize the Arab world and Islam, which will never, ever, happen.

Ed: I can see that. Tell me more.

Osama: Saddam loyalists all ran away to fight again another day, and they have a score to settle with America. There are a few million of them, they know Saddam yet lives and he also has some scores to settle. They no longer have a state to fight for but they still have a hated enemy to defeat. A conventional army would be useless, so they are organizing in Iraqi cells. When their fight is over in Iraq next year, they are willing to go wherever the enemy is, to continue the fight. We have people there, training and helping them, bringing them along on small operations. We have been holding them back some, but not for much longer.

Ed: Why do you think they will have won sometime next year?

Osama: American political winds. They began stirring with the last funding request. Iraqi resistance will ratchet up. American security efforts will be increasingly undermined and the rank and file Iraqis will turn on them too. Non Iraqi civilian contractors will die and retreat. American military casualties will double, and then triple, until the American people refuse to support their leadership in a losing proposition. If I am wrong in my understanding, we will attack America at home again, and that will be the straw that breaks the will of the people to sacrifice further for leadership goals. The American people will find new leaders who will talk to us as we are talking now. It is an election year, no?

Ed: Why are you so focused on terrorist tactics? Isn't there another way?

Osama: Of course there is! Dialogue. Which has been rejected by America since the beginning. With no dialogue, terrorism is the most effective way for the poor to fight the rich. We just as soon kill or cripple a soldier or a pilot before he is trained, whether he is four years old or twenty. We know we are in a war that lasts for generations. Why shouldn't we reduce the forces that will be fighting our children?

It is not the moral question America pretends it to be. A suicide bomber is just a military pilot without a plane. Rich countries put their terrorists in the latest multi- million dollar aircraft and terrorize the people on the ground anonymously, and fly mission after mission of terror. Martyrs use one bomb and look their victims in the eyes. They do not return to attack again a few hours later. They rest. They are more honorable than the sky terrorists.

Ed: I never thought of it that way.

Osama: Why would you? You have been taught all your life that the way of the rich is moral and the ways of the poor are immoral. In fact, you are secretly taught that all opposition to the rich is immoral or illegal, so the thought of resisting never crosses your minds.

In rich countries you are taught to live, fight and die for well concealed lies, in the name of patriotism and freedom. You wised up some during Vietnam and forgot most of your lessons when it was over. You have an expression that says; those who do not learn from their mistakes are destined to repeat them. Forgetting your lessons has become a cultural identifier in the West. We haven't forgotten ours and we don't repeat them. This gives us a tremendous advantage in fighting the rich. We can operate on shoestring budgets and prefer it. We are your proof that money isn't everything and you will ignore that proof, as you have been taught to do.

Ed: That is not necessarily true. Americans began to question authority back in the sixties. Some never stopped doing so and it is becoming fashionable among their children and grandchildren. This time there is no generation gap to take the edge off the truth. Whatever becomes of the old America, a new America is giving birth to the global consciousness that has been so lacking.

Osama: I will pray for this - that there will be no fighting among our grandchildren. I have enjoyed talking with a reasonable American. It is something I would like to do again, if you don't mind. I suspect you know enough to stay clear of our likely targets, so you can answer your phone.

Ed: Oh yes, I know where not to be for the foreseeable future and I am warning others, especially those in target zones.

Osama: Keep at it. It will save a few lives and you will be blessed. I'll call again when the desire strikes me. Should anything happen to me, a friend will call you.

Ed: I understand. If anything should happen to me, you will be talking to someone else. Thanks for calling. I look forward to next time.

Ayurveda Principles & Practice

Ayurveda - Principles & Practice

Ayurveda which has been evolved around 600 BC, apart from treating ailments concentrated more in its prevention. This was followed by the Aryans & Dravidians who were inhabiting India and has been practiced ever since. In the 21st century, Ayurveda has become an indispensable branch of medicine due to its naturalistic approach, that depends on the diagnosis of ones physical base ie Vata, pitta and kabha, and to maintain a right balance.

One of the important principle of Ayurveda treatment is that , treatment is given not only to the ailments or the affected part, but to the person as a whole. This creates an enviornment for purifying your body naturally, which eliminates all toxic imbalances from your body, enabling you to regain natural resistance from diseases and attain good health.

Kerala's equable climate, natural abundance of forests, which caters to the demand for herbs and medicinal plants, and the cool monsoon season (June-November) are best suited for Ayurveda's curative and restorative packages. In fact, today, Kerala is the only State in India which practices this system of medicine with absolute dedication.

Every object-plant, animal or human - according to the Panchabhootha Philosophy (5 elements of philosophy), is constituted of Vata, Pitta, Kapha.

Be Afraid

There's no doubt about it: fear holds people back. Period.
Fear is probably one of the most important obstacles to
overcome in order to be successful. Fear of what? you may
ask. Fear of failure (you probably guessed that one) and
fear of success.

Fear of success???

Absolutely! People fear success because there is a lot of
pressure to stay at the top when they get there, and there
is the feeling that they don't deserve what they've
achieved; someone will eventually discover that fact and it
will all go away. I saw an interview of Chevy Chase last
night and he said that most of the celebrities he's ever
known feel like someone will discover that they really
have no talent after all.

I think that a lot of people get to a certain level of
success and stay there because they just don't feel
comfortable at a higher level. In retrospect, I think that
may have happened to me and caused me to sort of slack off
when I got to a comfortable income level. Looking back I
actually felt a little fear at the idea of making more money
than I already was, and it held me back.

People fear failure because their self-esteem is too tied-up
in what they are doing. If they fail then they are somehow
diminished and less of a person. And, they are concerned
about what others will think if they make a mistake or if
something isn't perfect because they depend on the approval
of others in order to feel good about themselves

When you are afraid, you go into a protective mode that
includes, but is not limited to:

1. Giving up too easily. You can't be good at what you
do if you give up too easily. Some things just have to
be hammered-on repeatedly until you get the results you
want. Fear of failure is a self-fulfilling prophecy,
because when you give up too easily failure is almost
assured. Weird how that works, don't you think?

2. Not trying at all. Sometimes fearful people won't
even try. If it's something new, forget it! How can you
get the best out of yourself and others if you don't even
try? And how can you innovate if you don't try new
things?

3. Anger. When your fear manifests itself as anger, very
bad things happen. You alienate your family, friends,
and employees. And, you become unpleasant to be around,
which is a good way to lose customers.

4. Overcompensation. Instead of getting angry, some
people overcompensate. By that I mean that they are so
afraid that they will make a mistake that they will go
overboard to make sure that they don't, wasting time,
money, and other resources.

So what's the cure? Self-confidence. That's easy to say
but hard to get. The good news is that books and tapes are
out there that will help you. Find them. Study them.

Constantly remind yourself that nothing worthwhile happens
without some failure along the way. If you're not making
mistakes, you're not trying hard enough. Besides, you can
never completely fail because, in your attempt, you
succeeded in overcoming the fear of failing.

If you have to be afraid of something, be afraid of being
afraid. Nothing will kill your dream faster.

Reduced Fat Meat Loaf

It is no secret that four legged meats, especially beef and
pork that were fattened in feedlots, comprise one of the
highest sources of fats in the American diet. If you want to
keep some of your recipes, but lower the fat by ten to fifty
percent, you can substitute some soy foods for part. This is
easiest to do with meals which can be made from ground beef.

I have yet to find an artificial meat cutlet, molded from
tofu and / or TSP/TVP = Textured Soy/Vegetable Protein, to
taste very good. But I have learned to like tofu and tempeh
for themselves. I have made eef stew with tempeh
replacing all the meat, and omelets with mashed tofu instead
of cheese, and served without sausage or bacon. I also like
angel hair pasta mixed with spices, soy sauce, and an equal
mixture of ground beef and tofu.

The scientific test for success was that I have eaten my
invented recipes more than once, and without any regrets.

So, what about meat loaf? It looks like a natural test case.

One should realize that fat in the starting meat will be
mostly trapped in the final dish, so start with lean ground
beef. Major groceries should have 5 to 10 percent fat ground
beef. If not, ask for some to be made from their leanest
cuts. If you extend the meat by folding in crushed crackers
or bread crumbs, realize that such will help trap fat.

Here is my experiment of a recent weekend.

First, start an oven heating to about 375 Fahrenheit, plus
or minus 25 degrees. It will be ready when the dish is.

I placed 12 ounces (a common standard package size) of extra
firm tofu (least water content) in a round ceramic baking
dish, then used a manual potato masher to reduce it to
paste. I then added 3 cups of lean ground beef, and blended
thoroughly, until the color was uniform. Along the way, I
had tossed in some diced garlic, blended green herbs, two
tablespoons of real soy sauce, and some fresh ground black
pepper, but no salt. Other people might want to include some
diced green or red pepper, some tomato sauce or fresh diced
tomatoes, and similar.

By the way, I use Mori-Nu brand of tofu, because it comes in
aseptic packages which require no refrigeration.

I cut two medium potatoes length wise into quarters, then
sliced fairly thinly. I also diced up a double handful of
pre peeled baby carrots. After shaping the meat into a round
loaf which did not touch the sides of the dish, I placed
potato around the sides, then the carrots over every thing.

I topped the dish with its clear glass cover, then placed in
the oven for an hour. This made the potato and carrot slices
tender but not mushy. The resulting juices made a great
gravy. After serving, I added a small amount of lite salt,
which is a 50 - 50 blend of potassium and sodium chloride.
Tasty!

Readers can vary the proportion of tofu. My meat loaf had a
very nice consistency, neither rock hard nor crumbly soft. I
would like to know if readers still got good results using
more tofu.

After the left overs had spent a night in the refrigerator,
I saw no globs of congealed fat, which confirmed that the
meat was lean. Of course, the fat absorbed back into the
loaf was not visible. I reduced the saturated fats in the
meal, but I did not eliminate them.

Baking the potatoes with the meat, rather than making mashed
potatoes, meant no temptation to add butter or margarine.

Lamp and Lighting Facts

A- Thomas Edison did not invent the light bulb.
He bought the patent and improved it.
B- 3 way light bulbs work like this:
1st click - The smaller filamentis turned on alone creating the lower light level.
2nd click - The larger filament is turned on alone (and the smaller off) creating the higher light level.
3rd click - Both filaments are turned on creating the highest light level.
C- 3 way light bulbs burn out faster because:
Alternating cooling/heating of the two metal filaments shortens their lifespan.
D- Watts is not a measurement of light output. It is the electricity usage.
E- Lumens is the measurement of brightness or light output.
F- 2 way lamp has two separate bulbs with 2 levels of light.
(Hoyle Fine Lamps have optional hi-lo in-line switch that provides 2 levels of light
from just a single ordinary bulb.)
G- 3 way lamp has a 2 circuit socket and bulb that provides 3 levels of light (B above).
H- 6 way lamp has a combination of 3 way lighting (G above) and 3 additional bulbs
which are controlled by a 2 circuit switch: 1 bulb on, 2 bulbs on, 3 bulbs on, then off.
I- Lamp Finial is the very top cap piece that sits on top of the shade.
J- Lamp Harp is the U shaped wire piece that holds the shade onto the lamp.
K- Lamp Harp size must be matched with the shade size for a proper fit.
L- Lamp Shades are measured: top diameter, bottom diameter, side length along with a description of the shape.

As An Intuitive

As an intuitive and spiritual teacher, my mission in life has long been to guide people toward creating and experiencing the kind of lives their hearts desire. Lives that are physically grounded, emotionally creative, and intellectually engaging, where one feels loved, listened to, intuitive, inspired, and spiritually fulfilled. I not only believe this kind of life is possible, I actually believe it is our birthright and our Creator's natural plan for us.

Unfortunately very few people are actually having this kind of life experience. More common are people who are feeling exhausted, overworked, overwhelmed and emotionally drained and empty. Their physical bodies are suffering, their creativity dried up, and their sense of personal direction veering way off course. Not only do many people feel seriously out of balance, they are in many cases even having what I call out-of-body lives where they are merely existing and barely experiencing life at all.

What I share with my clients is that most of our problems can be traced to one of our seven psychic energy centers, known to the metaphysically minded as chakras, from their Hindi term which means spinning wheel, which from an energetic perspective is what a chakra looks like. These centers are satellites of activity that govern our physical, emotional, psychic and spiritual well being. In other words, they give us the ability to not only live our lives, but to actually love them.

To the rational Western mind the ideas that we are comprised of energy centers that usher in life force and assist us in channeling our expression and creativity into the physical plane seems far fetched and unlikely. And yet even our own language reveals our natural intuitive awareness of these centers and how they affect our lives. We say, for example,

He galls me! of someone who invades our boundaries and overrides our authority.

Wow, that knocks me off my feet of the new love interest that upsets our concentration and routine.

She has a heart of gold of someone who opens our heart and touches us in a meaningful way.

When this satellite system is balanced and operating as it is intended, we experience life in an energetically fulfilling way. We feel grounded, emotionally safe, clear in our decisions and self direction, open to giving and receiving love, effective and creative in all forms of expression, inspired, imaginative and intimately connected to our spirit, others and to God. Such a life is filled with blessings, grace synchronicities and abundant satisfaction.

The key to having such lives lies in keeping these centers balanced. This may sound difficult and yet one more thing o do in our jam-packed existence, but in fact it really isn't, especially once you understand what throws them out of balance in the first place. . Here are some great remedies to demonstrate the principles from my latest book True Balance: A Commonsense Guide for Renewing Your Spirit. They are practical, playful, simple--and the best part is, they work. These are not another round of .should do.s.. We all know what we .should. do, but who has the time? These are immediate and appealing remedies that you will enjoy doing, and will bring results.

Your sense of security is found in the first chakra. You can tell you have a solid foundation, or first chakra, if you aren't anxious or worry much. Need a quick fix to feel grounded? Need to take a stand but feel you.re on shaky ground? Wear really good socks. You'll notice it.s impossible to have a really good day when you have a hole in your sock! When you really need to feel solid, rub Vicks VapoRub on the soles of your feet. Take a grounding walk and bring your awareness to the moment, thinking of nothing else except how you are connecting to the earth, and how it is supporting you right now.

Your second chakra governs sensuality, creativity and vitality. When it is balanced you feel alive, engaged and excited by life. You feel sexy, creative and joyful. When this chakra is out of balanced you will feel depressed, tired, uninterested in sex, and basically emotionally flat. Working with clay is a favorite second chakra remedy of mine. There is something fundamentally gratifying to your sensual nature when you slap a big piece of wet slippery clay down on a hard surface and begin to shape it into something meaningful. This remedy brings out feelings and stimulates your imagination and creativity at the same time. Baking bread is another wonderful second chakra remedy. As with clay, there is something very sensually satisfying in working with dough, slapping it onto a hard surface and kneading it. .

The third chakra governs personal sovereignty. When balanced you feel in charge of your life and make decisions that support you in every way. When imbalanced, you get pushed around by others. You say yes when you mean o or vice-versa, and basically feels out of control. To rebalance your third chakra, practice saying no. Say .NO, NO, NO, with great gusto and enthusiasm. Also practice other versions of a saying no, such as .Gee, I wish I could. I would have loved to at any other time. Gosh, it.s a shame that I won.t be able to. If you are a real sucker for intrusion, do not answer your telephone. Leave a message on your answering machine instead that say, Hi. I'm out getting a meaningful life. Leave a positive and supportive message to wish me well!

The fourth chakra governs our ability to give and receive love. When balanced we feel part of things, generous and loving. We feel physically peaceful and serene. When our heart chakra is imbalanced we feel lonely, unloved, and unlovable. To bring balance to your heart, surprise someone with a half-dozen addressed, stamped postcards ready to send to their closest friends and family. Then all they have to do is jot a quick note of love and appreciation and drop it in the mailbox.

Have trouble speaking up or do you feel like you.re not being heard? Have really good ideas but hate to fight to get a word in edgewise? That's a fifth chakra imbalance, center of personal expression. Nothing activates the throat chakra like an open heart, and nothing opens the heart faster than singing. Sing in the shower, sing while you're walking down the street. Bring breath into your lungs and vibrate the sound through your whole body, bringing with it healing energy. Make positive predictions throughout your day. And once a day, practice saying, I am and filling in the blank with a truth of who you really are and who you really want to be.

The sixth energy center, located between your eyebrows, is the center of your personal vision. It influences our ability to see the world and ourselves clearly and without negativity. Remind yourself of the beauty and abundance of the world with a magnificently displayed bowl of fresh fruit, a beautiful photo or work of art, or a meditation garden. There is nothing more soothing to the spirit than an aquarium full of tropical fish. Even a few goldfish in a bowl are fascinating to watch and reconnect you to the subtle and gloriously beautiful world of nature.

Your connection to spirit is located in your seventh energy center, or crown chakra. It focuses your attention on the spiritual meaning of your life. To reconnect with spirit, open your eyes, ears and heart for signs of spirit all around you. Pay attention to the miracles unfolding before your eyes--the first buds of spring, the first harvests of summer. In the morning, consciously bless yourself, thanking God for giving you one more day to enjoy the world around you. Talk to God every day, and ask God to redirect your life, helping you moment to moment find your way to the highest possible good.

Are You Keeping Yourself From Your Next Dream Job?

8 out of 10 Americans want a new job (Society of HR Professionals, Dec. 2003). When people want to figure out their career situation, they are generally looking for something that is better or more, i.e., more passion, more of a challenge, more balance, or more money. Ironically, Ive found that most clients start the career planning with a limited sense of possibility.

Limitations come from:

* Lack of confidence (On one level I know I can start out on my own, but when it comes to doing it, I think I can't; so I don't!)
* Self imposed constraints (I have to be the one to get the health care for my family, so I must have a corporate job or I'm not happy but I can't make the time to do anything about it.)
* Unchallenged conclusions (It's irresponsible to consider taking time off that's like being a 20 year old again or I can't switch industries now; I have no experience so nobody will want to hire me.)
* Blinding fears (What if I make the wrong choice I've made too many mistakes already. I can't afford to choose wrong again.)

These statements are all interpretations what I call stories about facts that do exist for real in your life. For example, having no experience in a new industry is an objective fact; believing that it means you can't enter the new industry is a story. Your constraining self-talk seems like it reflects realistic ideas about everyday events.

But in fact, your stories have no materiality to them; they are just the product of neurons firing in your brain. Stories derive from deeply entrenched limiting beliefs.

If you are unable to move forward, it is usually because you are seeing your assumptions as rue or factual something you must work around without challenge. You are often unaware that you make your stories into facts. For example, I can't try to get a new job in the new industry now becomes an unchallenged truth for you. You limit your spectrum of possible next steps and hold back from pursuing possibilities that could be more satisfying to you.

Here's an example:

After a few discussions about how he could locate another bank job, a 40 year old male banker told me he has always wanted to work in the film industry. His frequent self talk had been I don't believe I could ever make it in the film industry, The only way my wife will feel safe is if I get our healthcare through my bank job, etc. He was confining his search to bank jobs, even though he was unhappy.

When he developed confidence to overcome his limiting ways of thinking, he transitioned to a film industry job for which he exudes passion. He saw that the reasons he had kept himself from this dream choice - for 15 years! - were all self imposed. He Got out of his own way.

Similarly, without this kind of process:

* An IT professional would have continued his 2 year procrastination and not started his own company.
* A languishing MBA grad would never have seized a desired job as hedge fund analyst.
* A female lawyer client would never have pursued a 3 month sabbatical to paint in Rome.

Unrealistic? That's what they thought at the beginning, too!

Heres another example:

In a delightful book called The Art of Possibility (by Roslyn and Ben Zander), there is a good example of how unchallenged stories determine ones reality. Two shoe salesmen are sent to Africa and send a telegram home to their companies. The first writes: No one in Africa wears shoes. Im coming home. The second writes: No one in Africa wears shoes. Score! Send over the sales team! Same facts different stories about the facts. Whos going to have a more successful career?

Where Might You Be Self Imposing Constraints On Your Career?

Career coaches help you figure out your skills and interests after you have an unblocked sense of these. But until you get out of your own way, a career counselor can only help you pursue the limits of your conscious possibilities. Avoid making next steps that keep you stuck in a rut or still dissatisfied. Get out of your own way first.

Managing your Negative Voice

When you are considering making a decision, notice all of the statements that get activated in response to your considerations it may even help to write them down.

Notice how many of these statements reflect assumptions youve made and then acted on as if they were objectively true. Notice how these stories about the facts constrain and demoralize you.

You do this hundreds of times a week, except that you dont realize it because you truly believe that the stories you tell are true, so why challenge them. Whether it has to do with your career search process or not, believe in yourself enough to check out your hunches, get factual confirmation, and find a creative way around the barriers you have imposed.

Action Steps

1) Track the kinds of stories that you seem to tell often these automatic stories are the filter through which you see the world.
2) Give yourself the exercise to have to tell 3 alternative stories before you can act.
3) Clearly articulate what you want for your life or for the situation; then choose the story that is in the service of your goals in life.
